At the opposite end of the country, it's one of those days when we wish for AC. 28C+Humidity so humidex in the mid 30's. We spent all day with the kids at the yacht club pool where there is a very nice cooling breeze. Back home now and it's 26C in the kids bedrooms. Which isn't good.

I would love to know where you get that from. The Met office says different... and they probably know a thing or two about weather. As does the Canadian Weather Office:
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/...r_airport.html http://www.climate.weatheroffice.gc....h1=0&month2=12 There is a well known tendancy in the UK to only post rainfall over 1 mm, rather than the internationally recognised 0.2 mm as is the case with the data you have posted for manchester ringway. May not seem a lot, but it can be at least 30 - 40 + days a year, probably more. The data you have posted for Manchester is not complete and does not include snowfall, which is around 30 days a year (data you posted for vancouver does include snowfall...so 131.8 is all percipitation ...for some reason, the UK only records rainfall). This graph is useful....just scroll down to annual and over 0.2 mm for national rain fall days: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/...ukmapavge.html Give you a hint...manchester is in the white zone, which is around 200 days....of over 0.2...you can also review over 1 mm which is, as you rightly noted, around 140. You can also check snow and sleet with is around 30 days....so something like 230 days total precip and 1394 hours of sunshine....it's from the met office...so they should know :)....Vancouver proper is around 131. 8 days, with 1928 hours of sunshine present on 288 days a year (the summer months get lots of sunshine).....although this can vary up to 175 days of rain depending where you are in the metro... so.... 131.8 vs around 220 - 230..... Vancouver airport averages around 1900 hrs of annual sunshine while further south the data is more like 2100 - 2200 hours with total percip of around 850 - 1000 mm on around 130 or so day, but does get wetter closer to the coast mountains (vancouver's micro climates). Average annual sunshine in the uk is around 1400 hours. Total rain fall does not tell the whole story. Frequency does. Rain in the UK, at least on the north west coast may be less (in some areas) but is more frequent and evenly spread through the year. Rain here is much less frequent during the late spring and summer months. Something like 60 percent of annual rain falls in a 5 month period. And i'm from manchester....and i doubt its englands wettest place, preston for sure is wetter.....and the wettest area is the lake district. As a side note....total percip in Montreal is higher than some areas metro Vancouver at around 170 days. It's the frequency of rain during the late fall and winter that gives the place it's wet moniker...... |

Sheesh.... just goes to show what you can do with statistics if you put your mind to it!
I never heard that Montreal has a "wet" moniker, and it would be a real surprise. It never rains in the winter. But we do get a lot of snow.... which is lovely (for the first month!) |

I think the nature of the winters here leaves people tired of the rain and highly sensitive to it...you have to get away during the winter here. |

well if one heads to the slopes....overwise may as well be in manchester...at least we have that option....as much as it rain here, it's still a much more equable climate than manchester, where the drizzle never seems to stop:thumbdown:
