I'm not sure why it is like that. I'd thought that maybe it's because the airport is high up. That isn't the case, though. Gatineau airport is at a lower altitude than YOW. There must be something, though. Were it not for a bit of topography, I would be able to see the downtown block where the missus works from my front garden. She often gets weather that I don't. Maybe storms are scared of crossing over to the dark side.

I brought this up with an acquaintance of mine who is a retired Environment Canada forecaster here in Ottawa. It is mainly due to the soils at the airport which are excellent for radiational cooling and also something to do with the proximity of woods in certain directions which prevent warmer weather and breezes getting in.

In the daytime this is not much of an issue as often the daily highs are the same as YOW...it is at night, especially on calm nights, that Gatineau drops off. There is a similar effect at a couple of weather stations east of Montreal.

I sort of understand that. Either way, it's been bleeding cold. I made the mistake of leaving a 24 in my insulated but unheated garage. Write-off.
