Glad you are OK though

Ah shame about the Yaxtrax. Obviously the only way to navigate sidewalks is prone on a toboggan using ice picks to propel you along.

Yaktraks (or however they're spelled) aren't bad. Mrs. C uses them whenever necessary ever since she fell and broke her wrist 3 or 4 years ago. I agree though that they break quite easily; I think she's on her third set.

Hope you are O.K. Kitty litter is great used as ballast in the trunk of the car, but used kitty litter is excellent to help de-ice icy drive ways. I lived in Sudbury for 20 yrs and as a teacher I had to drive daily in all weather and as a consultant was required to visit schools in outlying areas, regardless of the weather. I can only remember one day in all that time when a 'snow day' was declared. I must admit it was very scary at times.
When I retired I lived north of Guelph for 15 yrs., In all those 35 yrs. I never had a fall, except once when I went cross-country skiing.
When my grandson was about 10 he got new winter boots( lived in Burlington ) and complained bitterly that he could not slide down the icy drive-way. I ordered some for myself, had to guess my size in 'youths' sizes as they were not available in women's sizes. As far as winter boots went, they were the best buy I ever made. I believe they were from 'Cold Water Creek ' or L.L. Bean. I think CWC.

Yes but buy the cheapest no-name brand on offer. It's all the same clay (and made by the same people) but the price goes up when you start putting perfume etc in it. Clay oil absorbents (eg Oil-Dri) for garages and the like may be even cheaper. Again, it's the same stuff.

Presumably its the Urea. If you dont have a convenient cat, you can just buy Urea. Farm supply places are the best bet, its great for ice clearance and does not affect concrete the way that salt can, plus its less toxic to pets.

Or you could down a six-pack and have a piss on the driveway.

You don't really want to play show 'n shine with buddy when it's minus 30 outside.

Only guessing you haven't tried yet.

Well, we've arrived in a very snowy Bracebridge on Wednesday, after a delayed 13hr flight! Missed our hotel completely, collected our hire car once the place opened and drove up here.

Omg the snow is unlike anything I've seen before! The husband fishtailed on the hwy driving up, and there was a lorry on its side in the snow with police all around!!

But I have tried driving today, and the place my husband found is fab, and very beautiful!

So glad you got there in one piece! The weather is pretty brutal at the moment so you must have been in shock, lol.

Glad that the place your husband found is beautiful too...

Best of luck with the transition!

We had three exchange students from Oxford arrive this week. I wish I'd had a camera to capture the look of sheer disbelief on their faces when faced with the current weather .
