Not just in Canada, you say.

From today's Evening Times:-

CONTROVERSIAL plans to build 2500 homes on one of Scotland's most contaminated sites have been given the go-ahead.

Oh, what a shame. Why? Because I don't happen to agree with you? I'll try to live without you but it'll be a struggle

In Canada, AFAIK, an EIS is typically done for a road project, new engineering infrastructure but not a single building.

Believe me, Canadians can, when they want to, hold up a project for a multitude of reasons.

In fact there used to be an Ikea store in Dartmouth, in Burnside. It closed about 15 years ago because of a lack of support. It seems that efforts have been made to get them to come back, to Dartmouth Crossing, but to no avail. All they got was the cheap immitation whose name escapes me at the moment. JYSK or something similar. Good luck with the petition.

There was an IKEA in Victoria, BC when I was a teenager... so 20 plus years ago (1980s). It closed due to 'too small a market'. I can see it returning to the area at some point... but only way out in the burbs where all the breeders live, not in actual Victoria.
