The crazy thing is though people will be more than happy to drive those distances to IKEA. They've created an almost hypnotic marketing campaign which people go crazy for.

Personally I can take it or leave it, I don't particularly enjoy assembling sub-average furniture with an allen key for hours on end.

Talking of immigrants, I was somewhat surprised to read this morning that the largest immigrant group coming to Canada last year was Filipinos.

Although on the one hand that also surprises me, on the other hand it doesn't.

A large number of my nurses and nursing assistants over the last week in hospital were Filipino. Most of my nurses were new to the hospital (within three months) some from outlying communities some from other parts of Canada and some immigrants.

I only heard what might be called a new UK accent once and never had that person as one of my nurses.

It's similar around Vancouver. We also tend to see a lot of Filipino women working as nannies and housekeepers.

That's probably nothing new and not unique to Canada. When my son was born in (forgets year) in South London, the staff in the maternity unit were almost all Jamaican. And wonderful.

That's an oxymoron isn't it? Canada and "environmental impact studies" in the same sentence?

Apparently it's the only plot of land left in city limits to build such a development. (1.5 Million Sq. Ft).

Widening of Route 90 has been on the agenda for a while, and I see in the paper this morning further monies has been added.

Not that adding more lanes solves the problem of congestion.

I can only imagine it's because it's a dull in your neck of the woods as it is here. Of course it could be because Canadian furniture is so hideous -
