The Rolling Stone's iconic lip and tongue image has been sold to the Victoria & Albert Museum for around £50k....which icnonic images would you pay good money for...?

Not sure about good money, but there are a few I'd like. Edmund Hillary's photo of Tenzing Norgay at the summit of Everest would be a good place to start. Wouldn't mind Van Gogh's "Cafe at Arles" either, if I had a few tens of millions spare - but I don't know whether that is truly iconic or just very well known...

But what are the V&A actually getting for their 50k?
What exactly is it that's worth 50 grand of public money that can't be had just down the road on Kensington High Street for a couple of quid?

The original. Not the reprints. we can all get reprints of mona lisa as well but there is only one original.

Good thread , not sure what its worth (copyright may be worth more) but this photograph taken of Che Guevara by Alberto Korda is certainly iconic

I think mine would be the Audry Hepburn picture (my heroine!) although the Andy Warhol Marilyn Munroe has to be pretty iconic too
Love that picture of Che - he does look handsome in that !

I love the Che photo , but i'm unsure why . I think its the look of vision & hope that he seems to express in it .

That girl scratching her arse on the Tennis court ? Dont know the official name for it but i would pay £3.50 !

This one's not bad either, a little over-used ( no pun intended) but that makes it iconic I guess

I heard it was staged but never mind, still a good one

Here are two, not very cheerful ones tho.

That first one just made me cry - don't care who's side you're on the sheer fear and desperation in those kids faces (and indeed those in any war pics) is truly heartbreaking
