The spinner on our washing machine is a bit dodgy, and often won't work at all, especially with heavier loads, so yesterday I hung dripping wet sheets and duvet cover, jeans and towels over the rails of our deck to dry before finishing them in the tumble dryer. (cheaper too!)
Our concerned neighbour trotted round to kindly offer her dryer as she assumed ours must be broken!

I confess to having become very "Canadian" and always using my dryer
Very bad, I know; but the clothes feel so much nicer than line dried (though I do love the fresh off the line smell), can't have it all ways

Anyway - this is redneck Country, and I've never seen washing on a line since I moved here! I don't have a compost either; though I've been meaning to do that for ages, too.
I do recycle everything that there are facilities for, though. (Very sad that the plastics recycling place went under years ago). However, when one is up to one's arse in Aligators, one tends to forget the object was to drain the swamp!

One would imagine that in AB / Redneck heaven that the ideal clothes drier would involve some form of V8 engine at the very least!
Merely burning electricity to do the job on a sunny day is a bit namby pamby liberal Torontonian.....Here on the Rock Mrs AX utlises the rare sunny day to the full by and strings our smalls across the lawn for all to see. She even gets up early on a fine day to do so. What ever works for her is fine by me as I pay the 'leccy bill!
We also compost with a fevour although other forms of recycling are limited here to well, bottles mainly. Its amazing how many beer/wine/spirit bottles one can accumulate in a seemingly short time.......

However, I might continue at least semi-drying my heavier items in the sun, then fluffing them up with the drier, just to save electricity! .... til we get a new washing machine I'm gonna have to anyway!

My excuse is the most energy efficient appliances available
I'm (I say 'I', 'cos if I didn't do it, I doubt the rest of the family would bother
) better than most here - I really am disgusted at the amount of recyclables I see in my neighbours driveways on garbage day. We usually produce only one bag of garbage a week (famiy of five), yet all my neighbours seem to put out anywhere from three to six! I just don't get the logic of bagging grass clippings in plastic and sending them to the land fill! I've frequently seen ten plus bags lined up for the bin man!!
