You pays yer money and takes yer choice, but eating the wrong one, or covering you nipples with the wrong one wouldn't work too well.

Getting back on topic...

So this lady is basically saying "I'm English and proud!"

...and they want to take her licence away?

I'm confused. If she is English, and working in England, then what the hell is she doing wrong exactly????

I've only been out the UK 8 months, did I miss an invasion?

Her licence is not being taken away, she's just being asked to remove the sticker.

I think the problem here is linking the idea of "local driver" and "English" because it implies that someone with those two factors is a better choice than someone who lacks the factors. It can be seen as divisive.

If her sticker was just the English flag, there should be no problem. There's certainly no shortage of minicab drivers displaying Jamaican or Nigerian flags for example!

Ermm .. Lincolnshire SOUTHERN, nahhh Midlands..

The term Yellowbelly for Lincolnians come from the original uniform of the Lincolnshire regiment, which had a yellow waistcoat.

You seem to see these flags as "four rectangles"...I see them as a cross on a coloured background (which is what they are). I think you have been looking at too many open suitcases.

How dare she display that sticker and cause offence to those non English people living in the UK. Let us not be fooled folks the intent behind that sticker is to say
Look Im an English cab driver who knows their way around and I wont rip you off so hop in.
If I ever need a taxi in Newton Abbot, I'd certainly consider using her cab because as a local driver, she'd be more likely to know where even the most hard-to-find location would be. But I'd also use any other driver that was a local driver, regardless of whether they're displaying an England flag or not.

As long as the driver understands where I need to get to and how to get there quickly and safely, we won't have a problem. As most cab drivers even in the UK these days either have a satnav of their own or one built into the taxi despatch software, we're highly unlikely to get lost unless there's a communication issue between the driver and I.

But would you get into a cab if it were displaying a Spurs sticker, that is the question.

So you move to the country and then take offence to a local displaying their own flag and identifying themselves as a local? This just simply is not happening. How can you be offended on somebody else's behalf?

Its not offensive at all. Its someone sitting behind a desk with not enough to do.
