Re: I bought a bottle of wine in my local supermarket today
The posts here bring back old memories. I lived in Toronto for a couple of years in the '60s when the city had its "dry" wards and "wet" wards. It was illegal to drink on a window ledge in full sight of passers-by, and to have an opened case of beer in the boot of a car. And, in a bar, to walk from one table to another carrying one's glass! (We had to whistle up a bouncer to carry it for us.) Those were the days, eh?

Meanwhile in Newfoundland the Liquor Corp is putting prices up on Sunday "so they can continued to make their mandated return for the provincial govt". Bastards. Any pretence of control or protection is long since gone, this is state monopoly pure and simple. It's enough to make a fella give up drink. (No, not really)
I saw that this week as well , really boils me the way they up their prices just so they can keep their profits the same - Also see that they are talking about privatising the NLC , not really sure that that will be any better
