Four weeks into my new hobby, I was checking up on one of my tropical fish this morning as the poor thing was lying on her side, but still breathing.....................

I decided to vacuum up any debris to keep the water condition good to help poorly fish and lo and behold I saw black bits floating around. Crikey I am now the owner of some new baby fish. Found 3 so far

Judging by their size they are at least one week old and must have survived my previous gravel vacuuming . I now have them in a net basket where they can freely swim around without becoming a meal for my other fish. Mummy fish is back to normal and must have been hiding her babies from the other jaws in the tank.

To think, I thought she was being chased and bullied around the tank by the aggressive male.............................. ooooeeeeerrrrr

Congratulations! We too are the proud owners of a baby fish - just the one though and I did see one fish attempt to eat it and then spit it back out again...!! Our male fish appears to be the smallest one and he is a complete sex pest!!!

I've thrown in the towel on the fish-keeping hobby - lasted about 6 months I think - and slowly, one by one, they all popped their little fishy clogs. Gave away the algea eater to one of my daughter's friends last night - now just got to empty it all out and clean it - think that child has their eye on all my kit !

T'was not for me - and I never did get to the bottom of why they all died - the water always tested well - possibly down to water temperature fluctuations? No diseases, no cannibals - dunno really

congrats on the newest members of your family

Sad news, mamma fish has gone to fishie heaven. Had water tested yesterday and it was good but poor fishie was lying down last night under a plant and this morning was still there but gills not moving. Must have been the stress and exhaustion of looking after the little 'uns

Little uns' are thriving in their new baby box though
