Probably little he can do since its a provincial issue. Granted he could exempt electricity from any carbon tax, but seems Ontario has dropped the ball when it comes to electricity.

Can the issue in Ontario be fixed somehow? Not entirely sure why you pay so much for electricity back there, but these stories about electricity makes it easy to eliminate Ontario as a place to live.

I wonder how much our $100 bill in BC last month would cost in Ontario.

This is a typical example of incompetent political decision making that results in a farce and condemns the ordinary citizen into poverty while they holiday in the Bahamas.

Impossible to say because we have 'time of day use' charges, for example, a different rate charge at a different periods of day (three in all), they change at different rates during different periods in the summer & winter.

The lowest rate is night time, weekends & holidays + additional charges for delievery, regulatory, other charges as applicable + the GST on top of it all at 13%

So a typical 500kw/mth might cost close to $120 depending on how many folks are in the house, do they work or stay at home, the periods when folks use their electricity. If was all at peak, then the bill would be higher, or lower if used mid & off peak

For 2016 our final yearly Electricity bill including the GST for two stay at home seniors was $1905.44 or $158.79/mth average across 12 months

We have an electric stove, washer & dryer + use AC in the humid summer months.

I'm told that for the 2 storey ~2500sq'ft house that we live in that our Electricity bill is not so bad, to which I say 'you have to be joking'

My wife doesn't care about 'time of day' use & will use the washer & dryer (for just a few items) as well as the stove/oven part whenever (usually peak). Now if we did the major uses in mid peak or off peak I figured the bill would be less by about $15/mth average

Our Ottawa 3-bed semi, 2-adults (1 stay at home) cost us total $1400 (inc tax) for 2016 hydro, for comparison. That's $117 pm average.

So I'm likely right that our electricty bill is too high for a 2500sq'ft detached house, I would like to see it around $130/mth

I'm getting onto my wife to tell here 'stop using the appliances 'on peak' or as frequently as she does & to stop drinking so much tea (electric kettle is on contantly)

In the summer we keep the furnace fan running constantly to circulate the air even when the AC unit is not running. Summer months has the highest bills.

We are aware of the cheap time periods, but in summer we use a ton of AC. Other than washer / dryer, we don't use so much electricity otherwise though. Water / heating is gas.

Our last bill was $215. We neither heat nor cook with electricity.

Keenan, who operates Sunhall Equestrian Centre, posted a letter to Wynne on her Facebook page on January 5. In it, she candidly wrote of her frustrations with taxes, tolls, government fees and hydro prices. Within a week, the letter gained tens of thousands of shares.
In response to the Facebook post, the Premier called Keenan for a personal conversation Friday evening.
"It was a very good, cordial conversation," said Keenan.
Keenan was pleased that Kathleen Wynne took responsibility for some of the problems listed in the letter, such as high hydro rates.

That's true. We don't have time of use billing. We have a conservation rate where if you go over approx 675 kWh in a month or 1,350 in a month billing cycle. Our billing cycle is monthly though.

500 kWh with 5% rate rider, basic minimum charge, & GST (looks like hydro is PST exempt.) would be approx $51.75 per month, which is about what we average most of the year per month or slightly less. The cold weather has caused us to go into tier 2 pricing which added another $30 on top of the $60 at regular rates.

We are in GTA, family of 4 (two children, 2 year old and 6 month old) and our hydro bill for 2016 is exactly the same as you, almost to the penny!
I have been home 6 months of that year, and the other 6 months while we are at work we are forced to use hydro at the peak times.
But I'm very conscious of bills and ONLY do laundry during the lowest peak times and keep the AC on only when it's stinking hot and even then we don't cool the house that much.
I think you could definitely lower your cost if you tried.
