Default How smart are you - part II

I trawled the BBC site for the maths test that was mentioned as a follow-up to Iain's English one... finally found it (they were originally published by the Beeb in 2005).

Have fun - if that's the word! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4263590.stm

Absolutely delighted, very relieved (and a little bit lucky) to get 18/20.

I used a calculator though, it was too hard to do some of them on paper or in my head.

Very pleased with my result (19/20) but OMG I'm soooo embarassed at the one I got wrong... The definition of an isosceles triangle one...

I bailed and used a calculator for one of them, too - but only the one about the woman in the car going at howevermany point something mph because I couldn't be arsed with the long division. Pen and paper for the rest, just to see if I could. 20/20 for me

I am super impressed that I got 14/20! I don't do numbers and my mind blanks completely when it sees a lot. I remember doing those IQ tests on the Beeb last year and as soon as numbers came up on the screen, my brain just immediately tells me I can't do those, so I freeze. Time contraints don't help. However, today, I took my time and used a calculator.

I am happy with basic arithmetic, money () and percentages, etc, and I can work out how much carpet I need for a room, but to this day, I don't 'do' algebra (although I got a couple of the simple ones correct) and I don't even understand the sums with the little 2 above the figures

Give me languages, spellings and grammar any day of the week please.

You're all so clever. I scored a dismal 12/20 but for me that is pretty good as I'm number dyslexic.

Although I think 12/20 would make me an A grade maths student these days...?

If you're number dyslexic, you should have got 21/20

I am resisting the temptation to show my "workings"

Probably illegible to most anyway

I used a calculator, I got all the factors and algebra thingies right and I scored a whopping 12/20. Am I pleased with this? Yep I am. I got a CSE grade 4 in maths in 1986. My maths teacher was the worst ever. He used to photocopy question and answer sheets and leave them side by side on the desk for us to pick up and copy If he was feeling energetic he would write the Q on the board for us to copy, wipe it off before we got a chance to write it down and put the answer up

Maths scares me.
