Yes shit happens here, Did anyone ever say it didnt? Still, no burglary or vandalism on my road in ten years, but thats just as weak an argument. you cant even go by stats as crimes are reported differently and police have different instructions regarding for example pressing charges in domestic assaults. So all you can go with is how people perceive it to be, and even thats screwed up by years of exposure in the UK vs a short period in Canada for most of the people able to compare the two, not to mention that most people try and move to a "nicer" neighbourhood if they can when they move. |
Re: How Safe??
Well last night we left the car windows and sun roof fully open and car unlocked on the driveway. Still there this morning, untouched.
As iank says its a few events that are reported giving places a bad name. We did have a spate of shootings last month, but, Toronto is still in the top five places in the world to live, so should not be problem for regular normal folk. |

Its never terribly convincing to make a point based on one media report.

Re: How Safe??
I recently left my purse in a Tim Hortons on the way to Victoria on Van Island. I didn't discover it until we were in Victoria and 1.5 hours away from it. I called them and they already had it safely in the back. It had my American passport in it, several hundred dollars of travel money, credit cards and my iPhone. 5 hours later when I arrived it was all there.
I can't wait to get back permanently. |

You're lucky. I reckon it's a 50 50 chance of getting it back, especially in a shithole like Tim Hortons.

I don't frequent the shitty parts so I wouldn't know how honest Tim Hortons patrons, or homeless people who drink in them, are. I did chase one off after punching him in the face when he was vile to my wife though  |
