I came with nothing. Can you lend me a tenner:D

Have you got any of it left? ;)

Hallo playmates. I have just (truthfully) italicized the lowest category above. However I must also admit that I've just bought a second home in France for cash. I hope you're all very happy for me and dead impressed like.

To throw in another complication, we arrived with one job lined up. Made a big difference to our comfort level about the relatively (apparently) meagre funds we had available.

Please do the poll. It is anonymouse - everyone only gets to see the overall results not your own individual net worth!

The amounts are per family, not per person.

ok so here's my opinion the amount of money you have dont mean shit. Its the attitude that goes with it.

What about the over 1 million club, I see there is 4 members already any chance of all their details whilst I prepare my begging letters:rofl:

And maybe add a -0 to -1,000,000 for me I'm skint:D

So from the link it's 2.7 people per household. To make the maths even easier  - just divide the $$$ by 3 to get an approximate per-person figure.

Nic

That sounds reasonable. Is that approach ok with you NSPaul?

Hhmmm, but i came out as just me, unless i need to allow a portion of the money for the cat?? So that will mess with your figures for such a small sample. sorry.

Fine with me - we don't need to know the actual maek-up of the families who came here - an average family size will do fine.

Ack. Even I'm a bit bored with this. Let's suppose someone arrived with ten million bucks, that'll provide a nice high average.

What might be interesting to know is how things work out over the long term. Of the people who started with nothing, Novo, Howard and I all seem to have had a big pile of money at some point (I squandered mine), I wonder if zero-to-lots is more typical of immigrants or lots-to-zero.

It seems that moving here, buying a fancy house (from which the realtor pockets $20-30k), buying newish cars, replacing all your furniture you sold for a pittance in the UK, buying new electrical appliances and then discovering that everything isn't as you hoped it would be, the cost of living is much higher than you thought etc, OH misses family and friends and then deciding to go back to UK, selling house and cars at a loss (Realtor pockets another $20-30k) giving away useless Canadain electrical applicances, buying everything again in UK etc. etc. is a seriously effective way to go from lots-to-zero. I've seen a couple of people do it.
