Re: How many people going to Wasaga Beach

We are another family who moved into Wasaga Beach in Jan 06 and love it, I have not visited BE for a long time infact I was amazed when I discovered yesterday it is 25 months, but we hve done the move now and come out the other side! Wasaga Beach for us as a family with a 16 year old and a 6 year is a wonderful safe place to raise a family and yes there is a lot of discussion about the developing and infrastructure that is planned over the next 5 years which I doubt, if is has taken 12 moinths to build a new Canadian Tire and is still not completed! Wasaga Beach has been formerly known as a retirees community but having seen the latest census figures only 2 weeks back things have definately turned around and having been the first occupants onto a brand new subdivision so far it is 50/50 with families and seniors and I for one do not have a problem with that.
Yes it is fair to say we do get a lot more house and land for our money (our subdivision is all custom lots with a min of .5 acre and prices are low as opposed to being in the GTA, however the price to pay for that is my husband does commute daily to the GTA, and yep he has had a couple of bad drives over the winter but despite of all this he would not have done things any differently and for us part of our re-location was to move for the quality of life and not where the job was.
So any more Brits heading this way feel free to post any questions regarding the area and yes Fiona,s bakery does a mean Cornish Pasty!!

I am a greeter at Walmart and, the other day, i commented to a woman how delightful her twins were, in reality, they were holy terrors.

She said i must be blind and stupid as there was 2 years differance in age, to which i replied i am neither blind nor stupid, i just could not imagine her being able to have sex twice.

Sorry Steve was on the other thread askinmg a question you had previously answered, so you are going onto Fernbrook, which is a lovely area of the beach and we at the new Wasaga Sands off Sunnidale Road, which is where the other Brits are moving into also, so when you are settled and would like a meet up, just shout!

Re: How many people going to Wasaga Beach

also bought in Wasaga Sands, contracts were only signed today!! You are right about you get for your money. We brought one of the lots down the bottom. 0.76 of acre...and we are paying fair amount for our house. However, i work from home so most of basement being kitted out as my office and gym. We are getting the Riveredge model and putting in a loft, might be cost a lot compared to local prices but we will have 5,500 sq ft and 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms. Elsewhere in the GTA or even closer to Barrie would probably cost double.

Danny, we had fully expected to be going for Barrie, but ventured out to Wasaga on this visit and sold completely. I don't need anything work wise other than high speed internet so a damn site easier for me than most. But you certainly get more bang for your buck, plus so close to beach, really nice drive out of Barrie on the 26 (although locals will appreciate it was a nightmare last Friday night in that storm), but also 15 km's to Collingwood. With the plans for the area i see house prices have to continue upwards, especially if they did something about the roads towards Wasaga. Rental agent we went with said talk of extending 400 style freeways that way or making 26 a dual highway. Would completely recommend having a look, although the Wasaga Sands development only has 26 lots left (according to Sales Manager when i spoke to her this afternoon).

Helen, we will be renting on 60th street from October and i am sure we will meet up once we land, you will probably get annoyed with my driving past daily inspecting the progress of my build.

All the best

Chris

Well, they would say that, wouldn't they?

No, seriously, it sounds like an up and coming area, probably a fine investment.

Just one warning. Snowbelt. Enjoy.

Re: How many people going to Wasaga Beach

hi (steve's oh here)
one thing i can say from growing up in collingwood the beach has come along way100% and also some of the best thing about living there is you have 2 miles of white sand fesh water beach, you are about 45min from 5 diferant ski hills
and part of the school activitys is skiing n skateing also i think they just started swimming lessions from grade three
as a kid growing up in collingwood i never had alot of this the winter yes but than i got a job at the hills and had free skiing anyway
so theres a thought for some of the teenagers out there you can get weekend and winter break time up there cuts down on the price of a pass
but as my dad always told me dont cheat anybody out of there dream if you dont like where you move just because someone dosnt like it dosnt mean you woant
i never thought i would ever live at the beach no way to ruff and wild now i seen it and WOW it was me telling steve to move there
i tried telling steve how small it was but he did know untill we went to the bank to get the deposit and 2 people asked if he was someone buying this house we said no but the look i got from him ''how dose she know'' and when i told my aunt n uncle they were oh i wonder if that maybles house she lives on that street
oh if you need a great accountant i know one in stayner alot of farmers use her but she dose anyones taxes.
i can also say im looking forward togoing to the local farmer and getting a side of beef for the freezer save buying the hole cow when i go shopping sorry the canadian comeing out in me buy in bulk side of beef but than i know alot of the farmers so its cheaper to buy from the farmer than pay stayner meat packers packing price
well ill stop rambling now just wanted to add my 2 cents worth or as steve tells me £10.00 woth
