Toronto

Suprisingly not too bad! Quite a bit of snow in December and January and since beginning of February there hasn't been that much at all. Been some very cold days but then have been +15 days as well.

Its been alright, Ive enjoyed watching the kids have fun.

I did find myself shouting out loudly in the car last night for the snow that had started to fall to "go away" (those may not be the exact words I used mind) as I had foolishly convinced myself that spring had sprung and we were done with that, and its -20some with the wind chill this morning, so the sooner it stops now the better as far as Im concerned...

To be honest the winter doesn't really bother me at all (then again I don't plough the driveway or do an awful lot of driving because everything is local). I much prefer to have defined seasons although a couple of months chopped off the winter season would be a treat.

I find it harder to cope with high humidity and bug bites during the summer months.

Unpleasant. A few nights when there was freezing fog and a full moon were interestingly eerie and the storm that brought down a bunch of trees near the house was exciting but mostly it was just cold and slippery and the snow clearing was tedious.

Still, the frost resistant hydrant proved to be a great success, much pissing about with hair dryers and the hose but no hauling of water this winter.

Winter here on the Eastern Avalon has been 'soft' so far this year. The Enviroment Canada guru referenced in another thread was interviewed this morning on CBC talking about how easy we'd had it compared to the rest of the country. We've had 97% of the precip but not in any great storms and with a lot of rain that has disposed of the snow.

Then, just as we were feeling a little smug he pointed out that we get 25% of our snowfall after March 1st. And that snow in May is common. And snow in June is not uncommon.

So I'll be leaving the snow tires on for a while longer..........

Here in St Petersburg, Russia it has been a warm winter. It's not gone down to minus 40 or something but we have had snow, minus temp, but not too low by Russia's standards.

The white nights are approaching and the weather is improving. I thought the snow had stopped but then it snowed yesterday and it was freezing outside.

I just realised! How British of us tonb talk about the weather!

Yes, we have already talked about when we retire or semi-retire & I can find someone trustworthy to run my business, we shall go somewhere hot for at least Jan/Feb/March.
We love Canada and where we live is perfect, what we always dreamed off, but the winter is so tiring and looooooonnnnnggggg!!!!
So retirement is actually something to look forward to now, funny, always dreaded getting old before

Bored now !

Not had tons of snow - but enough to keep the ground covered almost completely since the beginning of December. Which I think is unusual for this area? There have been a distinct lack of the chinooks this winter - so for me, it's not necessarily the temperatures that are the problem (but there have been long stretches of damn cold) - but it's the fact that it hasn't really let up. Thats not what I signed up for

I think the state of the roads in Calgary itself has been bad - with very poor levels of snow clearance. December was terrible and the city should be embarrassed! Not something I particularly noticed last year, for example, as I think the constant freeze-thaw cycles that are normal for here did occur and they did half the road clearing job for the city anyway.

I also think I have noticed the low temps even more this year as I am now the owner of two dogs who need daily walks. Some days, at -26 with a bit of a wind, they get about 10 mins around the block if they are lucky!

So, apparently it is the first day of Spring soon. Somehow that doesn't mean a whole lot here. Add another 6-8 weeks onto that really.

The bright sunshine and blue skies keep me sane. It sure looks pretty, staring out of my window, while standing with my feet over the heating vent

Long and predictable...must be getting old! Ice went out where I live yesterday, four days earlier than last year. High winds are clearing it pretty quickly now. The end is nigh.......nice to be able to start thinking about starting once more with outside projects....lets hope for no more white crap....(it is OK to say that?..not sure on here anymore}
