How did your pet die?
Ok wierd title but when sitting in a bar the other night we started telling stories of how our pets died, and pc or not it was hilarious - here`s some of ours / friends
I had a budgie who had cancer, I went on girl guide camp and when I returned my mum said the bird had died, sad I thought but s**t happens. Well about 15 years later mum admitted it didn`t actually die but dad wanted to put it out of its misery. Unable to bring himself to wring its neck he turned on the gas oven and popped Leroy in there (didn`t light it, he thought he would just gas it) after 5 mins he opened the door and the thing stumbled out high as a kite, apparently you can`t kill things on north sea gas - so he just wrung its neck anyway as he figured the bird was adequately drugged up not to feel it! Friend had a budgie that liked to walk around the living room and peck peoples feet. His mate didn`t like this and tried to flick the bird away, but it kept coming back. So a bit annoyed he gave it a god almighty flick (akin to a volley) and the bird landed straight in the open fire and went up in flames! Other friend and her sister, christmas day when they were young opened presents and my mate got a bike with a basket on the front, her sis got a rabbit. Well Clare decided to ride the bike up and down the garden path with things in the basket, eventually she ran out of things to put in there, so she got her sisters new bunny and promptly stuffed that in the basket and went tearing off hell for leather down the path. Obviously the rabbit got scared and jumped out the front of the basket and Clare ran straight over it on her new bike! :( Now i`m not a sick person but this was super funny especially when we`d all had a few beers  |

Re: How did your pet die?
I know someone who trod on her sons' pet tortoise with her stiletto heel
To this day both boys (now in their 30s) still don't know the truth :o |

Re: How did your pet die?
Goldfish (not sure which one from Topsy and Tim) jumped out of bowl one night and found dead on teh floor in the morning.
I love the fact that the myth about gas didn't work |

My last one was flushed down the toilet. I normally wouldn't have minded, except it was a golden retriever. |

Re: How did your pet die?
My MIL loves to embarrass the OH by telling the story of how he took his three goldfish out of their bowl one night and put them under the dresser to "give them a break from swimming as they must be tired"
Needless to say after spening a night on the floor they never had to swim again:rofl: He was only eight mind. |
Re: How did your pet die?
One day when I visited my BF (before he became Mr Morwenna) he told me there was a goldfish in his bath. And there was,- swimming somewhat erratically around in the tub.
He'd found it lying on the kitchen floor .... no idea where it had come from as didn't have a tank/pond. We suspect one of the cats had cuaght it from a neighbour's pond. It was apparently lifeless and dry so he picked it up and dropped it in the loo. Before he flushed though he realised it was in fact alive, so he fished it our again and put it in the bath-tub. I transferred it to our own garden pond, where I wish I could say it had a long and happy life, but it was later eaten by a marauding heron! Ooh some years later when I came home I found our young puppy on the stairs with something red in its mouth. I put my hand in its mouth and pulled out ...... HALF A LARGE GOLDFISH! (Next door had a large pond with rather expensive Koi ..... our cat was later found with her front paw wet up to the elbow. She'd obviously caught the fish and brought it home, and given it to the dog!):o |

Re: How did your pet die?
I bought two guinea pigs for my daughter. I varnished the inside of the hutch, they ate it, they died. Serves me right for trying to do DIY.

Re: How did your pet die?
See what I mean about it being funny - i`ve been chuckling all afternoon about some of the tales on here.
And before anyone says i`ve had pets die that i`ve been heartbroken about too (cat shot by a gamekeeper that sort of thing) but sometimes theres hilarity in misfortune :o |
Re: How did your pet die?
An ex of mine had a tortoise that died so she buried it, she looked surprised whenI asked if there was any chance it could have just been hibernating:ohmy:

Re: How did your pet die?
My pet cockatiel fell off her perch and died when we had a Earthquake.Think it was 03 or 04.
Can anyone else remember having an earthquake in the Yorkshire area round about then? The earthquake was on the 22nd Sep 02 at 11 53 pm its epi center was Dudly West Mids. |
Re: How did your pet die?
Not a pet but, my friends neice who was about ten (really big girl for her age) decided she would give a bird a fright, it was sitting on top of a bucket of water when she decided she would kick the bucket over and scare the bird.
Up she runs missed the bucket and kicks the bird about ten feet, got a fright alright killed the bugger. |

Re: How did your pet die?
Different story for each. Some were old and sick and he was too cheap to go to the vet.
Others just pissed him off. We can laugh about Ralphie going to the big ranch in the sky now but my brother and I know what really happened. |

Re: How did your pet die?
My little sister had two guinea pigs that lived in a run in the back garden. She still thinks, 20 years later, that they were eaten by a fox; it was next-door's labrador who got in the run when we were dog-sitting her for a few days.
Sister was away on a school trip at the time and we didn't have the heart to tell her the sweet little golden lab was really an evil guinea-pig-eating monster. |

Re: How did your pet die?
I didn't think I had any amusing stories to tell but when thought back I remembered two amusing incidents.
The first happened when I was about six, my sister then ten, came home from school distraught because the chicks they had been raising had died after the cleaner accidentally turn off the incubator. My dad trying to comfort her and get her to think of something else asked my mum what was for tea, as quick as lightening I answered 'probably chicken!' which sent my sister off again, my dad walked away rather quickly trying not laugh. The second one I was around 12 and my friend and I walked an hour to collect some tadpoles, I carried them home really carefully and put them in a washing up bowl and left them out in the sun, thinking it would be quite nice for them. When I came back a couple of hours later every single one of them had burst:ohmy: the sun had warmed up the water so much they had basically boiled alive!!! |
Re: How did your pet die?
when i was growing up we used to have all sorts of animals as we lived out in the middle of nowhere.
There were cows next door and we used to be able to stroke them and feed them grass when they poked their heads through the fence. Anyway, we used to have a nanny goat called Daisy, and mum and Dad said that they couldnt look after her well enough so they took her to the farmer down the road. and if we wanted, we could phone him up and ask how she was doing. 18 years later Mum told us the truth, she died from eating all the frost on the leaves on the trees and that they didnt have the heart to telll us she had died so they told us about "Farmer Brown" who was in fact Dad on the phone upstairs talking to us with a fake farmers accent. I love my parents for that:wub: |
Re: How did your pet die?
Reading this again and the hiberanating tortoise reminded me of another!
We had a hamster called Honky (named by a 3 year old who used to give the pets names that were basically made up words!!) and I went to his cage one morning and he was stiff as a board, so I thought i`d just grab the bull by the horns and tell the kids he was dead. Youngest (who named it) couldn`t give a stuff but my oldest (12) asked if she could bury it in the garden. Aaaaaah I thought, ok then, so she and her mates all got spades and dug a huge hole in which you could have buried an elephant. Meanwhile i`d put Honky in a plastic Asda bag (don`t ask why, probably didn`t have a shoebox) and taken it outside to them all. I went back into the living room and watched from out of the window, just as oldest was about to put the bag in the hole she dropped it on the concrete, and the bloody thing started moving , so she`s banging on the window yelling "mum he`s not dead" so I said "well what are you waiting for, get it out of the bag and bring it in here quick" To which the reply (in a heartbeat I must add) was "but its taken us ages to dig the hole, can`t we just bury it anyway?" I had to laugh but explained about the whole concept of not burying things alive (which of course she knew but just wanted to make sure) and in it came, back to his cage where he properly died about 1/2 hour later! |

His aunt was sitting in front of the TV one night (a little drunk!) wondering why that no matter which way she turned the dial the same thing was always on the TV. Frustrated she went to bed. She woke up the next morning to find all her tropical fish were dead. Turns out that her TV and fish tank were next to each other and instead of turning the channel dial on the TV she had been turning the temperature dial on the fish tank and had managed to boil her fish! |
Re: How did your pet die?
it's amazing but when I was a child none of my pets died...
whenever they got old they were taken to a nice big farm in the countryside to live with the bunnies and the lambs :) funny I never got to visit them  |
