Re: How did Canada become uncool?
I always thought of Canada as quite cool and glamorous. Pierre Trudeau, Gilles Villeneuve etc. |

I always thought canada as being cool even 25 years ago when I was 11 and my obsession started with the country... will be living where I have always wanted to be from the 11th July can't be happier :)
I always thought Canada was like the Uncle knob head at a wedding. He's best left alone to get pissed and bored some other poor bugger to death. :p |

Maybe it was just the French names giving that impression. Canadian French isn't "sexy" like French French is.;)
the French have all the fun...;) |

It's clear that you find French Canada cool..
Again, me.. not so much... I've always preferred chocolate to carob, the French are French, French Canadians are just angry ...Canadians.. It may just be that wiry mullets, polyester clothing, BO & pornstar moustaches were last considered cool in 1976.. French Canadians, and I take it you are referring only to those in QC, are not French. They are North Americans who speak French. And usually English. Angry? Really? I think you mean extremely warm and friendly. What would I know? I only live in QC. As for the fashion aspect of your insult, I suggest you visit Montreal or Quebec City in order to get a more informed view. This automatic and ignorant branding of French Canadians is really starting to piss me off. |

I loved the 'cafe style' in and around Quebec City when we visited. Reminded me a lot of Europe and very pleasant service we received all round actually.

I live in The Maritimes &, unlike you apparently, realise that Quebec is not the only place French is spoken as a first language by some of it's inhabitants.. If I have a point of reference for French Canada it is here.. (Try Googling Acadia.!?.). As I made clear in my initial (intentionally clichéd post), I don't consider French Canadians to be French any more than I consider the Mexicans to be Spanish.. I've visited Quebec (including Montreal) & marveled at the "Fashion" first hand, it struck me as endearing that they try so hard to appear European.. Please don't stop bringing the full weight of your intellect to bear when criticising me, it's a little light relief & often humorous (In a Pecksiffian sense).. .. |
