How did Canada become uncool?

When I was younger I always thought of Canada as quite cool and glamorous. Pierre Trudeau, Gilles Villeneuve etc.

How did we end up with Harper, Rob Ford and Don Cherry???

It's clear that you find French Canada cool..

Again, me.. not so much...
I've always preferred chocolate to carob, the French are French,
French Canadians are just angry ...Canadians..

It may just be that wiry mullets, polyester clothing, BO & pornstar moustaches were last considered cool in 1976..

Canadians became uncool when they started to believe they were actually really cool.

Eh? You thought of Canada? I didn't realise that people in the UK thought about Canada at all. Cold yes, cool not so much.

I love it now I am here, but I only thought of Canada in terms of "Where can I aim to move to now that I've established the US is a no-go".

I always thought canada as being cool even 25 years ago when I was 11 and my obsession started with the country... will be living where I have always wanted to be from the 11th July can't be happier :)

I share that view.

Italy, yes. New York City and LA, yes. Paris, Monaco, Cannes too.

Not Canada. Perhaps Montreal at a pinch.

Canada is sort like your cousin from Norfolk. Pleasant enough but . . .

I see what you mean. It was never 'glamorous' though, always rustic and naiive ... There was something strangely attractive about its naivety actually, but I think it's anything but nowadays with some of these idiots in power.

I wonder if we all spent a year in Norway/Sweden/Denmark whether we'd feel the same way in those countries? They're what I think of as 'cool' countries.
