I must go and do the laundry now - see ya later! |

the lower boiling point of water at high altitudes plays havoc with boiled eggs as well as tea. I can't remember the numbers offhand, but seem to recall that you'd need to boil an egg for something like 15 minutes at the top of mount Everest to get the same slightly-runny yolk achieved in 4 minutes at sea level. I'm sure R I C H can provide chapter and verse.... apparently it's all to do with the energy needed for the protein molecules to form long chains, or something?

Wonderful! So 15 minutes at the top of Everest probably wasn't too far off, especially given that the egg will probably be frozen before you start (unless you've carried it up the mountain in your underpants or something...)

A proper derivation should use an ovoid. We may discuss which end is "up" on another occasion. |

The fomulae in the link are close, but only approximate. The author assumes his egg is spherical, which it clearly is not.

In my eggcup the blunt end is always "up." You have to cut less of it off to make a hole big enough to get your spoon in.
