If anyone would care to experience the reality of recreational shooting, the lower trent fish and game club is holding its annual youth day tomorrow.

It will involve kids shooting guns and having lots of fun. Great for first timers and a real canadian family fun day out.

Registration starts at 8:30, ranges open at 9.15

That's good.

I've just realized that I don't actually own a gun.

I thought all you ex-military types had your old service revolvers stuffed in a showbox at the back of the wardrobe.

Service revolvers, there's a thought.

I am not as old as you are. I guess I am Mel Gibson to you being Danny Glover. We just need a Joe Pesci:

There are plenty of candidates.

And I thought you was older then me for some reason. I was just a kiddy wink when the Falklands went down.

What made you think I have ever been to the Falklands?

My year at school was the last to write O levels

I saw a triffic programme on TV a couple of weeks ago. It was from France. It involved blokes hunting wild boar. They were wearing camo suits. Except that they were Day-Glo, to stop them shooting each other.

Can someone please explain to me the logic of a bright orange camo suit?

It seems to make about as much sense as going on patrol in Kabul wearing a Mod parka.

Now you mention it, I've got no idea why I thought that.

That's fairly easy, actually. Wild Boar are rarely armed and are colour blind.

Like all pigs. Oh, yes.

Ah. That makes sense.

I presume you are not referring to the constabulary?

Personally I would like the right to walk through the wilderness without fear of getting shot by some redneck (whose penis is the same size as his IQ so needs a big gun to make up for it) that shoots anything that moves.

You can argue over teaching safety etc all you want but at the end of the day you can't teach stupid, & surely saving just one life of an innocent person from getting accidently shot by an idiot should be more important than your right to have this hobby.
It's not merely a hobby though, contrary to popular belief the vast majority of weapons used by the police and the military were designed by people who are not members of either. (Moreover pest control is necessary and a lot of people who hunt do it for subsistence reasons).

You can't just suddenly shut off the part of your brain that allows you to design dangerous stuff. You can't uninvent them.

What you appear to be arguing there is against accidents, fatal accidents involving firearms are quite rare.
