Greggs or Tim Hortons?
From a column in today's guardian:
It must be great being Canadian. Instead of Greggs, they’ve got Tim Hortons. |
Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
Tim hortons all the way. I love the honey crueller. Could eat one right now or 2. |

Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
There are 21 Tim,s in the UK, majority in Scotland. For a coffee and Do-nut i would choose Tim,s every time but for something more substantial to eat i would choose Gregg,s, their steak bake is excellent.

Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
Greggs for the sausage rolls although I really want to try this vegan one they are all talking about. Tim Hortons for the apple fritters and roll up the rim! |
Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
2010 = Tim Hortons
2019 = Greggs (assuming the quality hasn't nosedived like Timmies since I left) |
Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
Neither.
Prefer coffee shops. |

Greggs all the way. Tim Hortons is prison food
|
Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
Greggs all day and twice on a Sunday!
Tim Horton's does nothing well. |
Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
Tim's is a place of last resort for me. Nothing in that place is what I would call good, they can't even make a donut taste good.

That vegan one is being talked about a lot, but to me it seems like what's the point. With a real sausage roll at least you are getting some meat with the unhealthy pastry, but with a vegan one it's just some ground up mush and unhealthy pastry. What kind of food is that ?!

Duffin's has the best I have found in Vancouver, never been to Cartems, no idea how they taste, Krispy Kreme are not great, okay but not great. |

Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
A "frothy coffee" in the Wimpy Bar in Cheltenham was always nice, but that was 50 odd years ago.

Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
Never been to Greggs
Don't like Tim's except in an emergency when tehre is nowhere else, and even then I don't drink their coffee .................. bottle of juice is all. Much prefer independent coffee shops, and there are hundreds, if not thousands, of them around. All well worth supporting, and with much better coffee and choice of things to eat than any mass-produced food from a chain. Blenz or Bean Around The World are OK-ish for coffee, not so good for food. Best 3 in BC?? All have great coffee and delicious food, mostly prepared to order. But NO doughnuts   Wick's in Vancouver ..... Chartreuse Moose in 100 Mile House Blue Moose in Hope. |

Funnily enough have not really found any decent independent coffee shops in Vancouver or around. Elysian is ok by Cambie and Broadway but I don't know if you class that as a chain. |
Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
Cornish Pasty...any savoury pie...sausage rolls...guess which one I'm voting for? Canadian pastry always looks anemic...
Now you've got me thinking hard about food and I've got salad tonight:unsure: |

I agree Two If By The Sea is good ....... though I haven't tried the almond croissant ........... one of the many things I can't eat! I haven't heard of Elysian Have you tried Caffe Artigiano? It's a small chain started in Vancouver, think most (if not all) of their ca 20 locations are in Metro. I think their first one was the one on Hornby Street, next to the Hotel Vancouver. The Other Paw Bakery Cafe is good if you're ever in Jasper, or the SnowDome Coffee bar in the laundromat, again in Jasper. |

It was a bit like this brown derby https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...17ffd0cbf4.jpg Doughnut with a hole filled with ice cream - firm not whipped - and chocolate sauce. And that weird thing they did with a sausage https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...db5338eac5.jpg Wimpy Bars were fantastic. We had an alternative office Christmas dinner in one once cos the price of the one in the canteen was outrageous. |

Gregg's does some solid food items that are well priced. |
Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
No contest, Greggs every time......in both choice and value...at least that was the case back in the day......
|
Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
Gregg's, schmeggs.
Surprised so many seem to like this chain. Perhaps it's expat nostalgia. What items do you like from there? |
Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
There are WHAT?! If there's one in London I'm taking a trip immediately.

Re: Greggs or Tim Hortons?
I'm just going to throw Bird's Bakery into the mix. Far superior to Gregg's. And anyone who spells Horton like that needs a good slap :p
