When my son graduated from the U of R I went to the graduation. They all wore gowns - nobody wore that stupid mortarboard thingie. I am not sure if they were asked to and everyone refused - or if nobody even suggested it.
I have never seen anyone who doesn't look like a flipping clown in one so I am really glad they didn't wear one. We do have the photos. We don't have one of those enormous things, just maybe an 8 x 10.
I think you will regret it if you don't get something done - something posed - not just a snapshot type thing.

You could buy the cheapest option and then scan those tho.

You could always look at them online at the largest size they'll allow then do a "print screen" and then manipulate the image in your photo program.
