Yes, but this is a British expats forum. I'd suspect it might be of interest to some of the British expats, clearly, not you though.

To be fair, didn't he actually say he had ended 'Tory boom and bust'? In which case he's technically correct, since this is the usual Labour bust that brings down a Labour government.

I do actually have a bit of time for Gordon Brown. It amazes me how no one mentions Tony Blair who is off earning millions of pounds a year during these dark times.

That's because Blair was smart enough to get out before the game was up.

What a strange comment. I might not live in the UK anymore, but like to think I care about what happens there for rather less selfish reasons (and this is coming from someone who lost money on owning property in the UK while Brown was Chancellor).

My own thoughts were also along the lines of we have lost quite a decent guy. Not great at PR, but has a certain dignity - way above that of Clegg or Cameron.

Not a bad piece I think.

When I was younger, I recall some old wise fart saying something like this to me: "The Tories are nasty bastards but they do know how to save money. Labour are nice people but don't know how to spend money effectively. You will find that Labour will spend everything and then the country will vote for the Tories so that the finances can be sorted out. Once they have saved enough, the country will vote for Labour so that the money can be spent again round and round we go"

Hi
From our viewpoint and also that of many others on this forum....concerns for the financial stability and poor value now of the £ - $cdn rate. This is of great concern when being about to leave the UK for Canada....where every penny will be needed.

As this forum is for those who have already immigrated to canada and for those who want to or are in the process of doing so, this is exactly the right place for this thread. IMO:thumbsup:

I think Gordon was doomed from the start, sadly. Cameron and Clegg as far as I'm concerned seem to be imitations of Blair back when he first won - all spin and no substance.

The next while will be interesting - I think there will be a turn around in support for Brown now that he's gone.

Cameron is basically a pretty face who fronts William Hague's policies. Hence why lately hague came out and talked to the press, more direct that way :P. Clegg peaked too early in the debates, in the last one he was sweating and downright disrespectful (e.g. "Oh there they go again" while Cameron and Brown were having a serious debate). I'm just taken aback by the fact the libs are even talking to labour when there is a pressing urgency to get a government sorted and the tories have been honest dealers about the whole thing. Brown is repeatedly dishonest and scheming, I cannot stand his personality.

Proportional representation would be interesting, apparently 50% of the electorate would support it from what I have read, though I think any kind of radical political reform like that would be rejected a referendum.

Anyway I'm looking forward to when I get PR here so I can stop having to care about this stuff in the slightest.

It's over for Brown, and Labour now. However, they can go knowing that they did not give in to Lib demands - Tories have.
