Google Feedback (maps)

:frown::frown::frown:

Has anyone seen Google maps recently?

All I want is to see where a place is in relation to other places and to see places within a particular area.

But now they've got #!&$% boxes every #!&$% where about photos, terrain and journey and I can't #!&$% see what I want to see and there doesn't seem to be any #!&$% way to close the #!&$% things.

If you want photos there is already the images feature. Journeys can be had elsewhere and I imagine terrain is a minority interest and those interested are probably well catered to already.

I tried to send feedback. But once a comment was entered there's no #!&$% 'send' button to send the comments.

I went to the other google feedback button, made my comments there and there was no #!&$% 'send' button there either.

Does anyone know how the #!&$% one makes comments to Google?

I know exactly what you mean. Google Maps used to be so useable, but in their quest to make everything idiot-proof and supply a bit if advertising some of the functionality is stripped out.

Don't waste your time even thinking about complaining to Google (or any internet company).

I feel the same way, it should have been left alone.
I tried some of the tabs in the bottom right hand corner and, somehow, I had a box come up where you could reset back to the previous version and then save it for the future.

It's the Lite Mode you click on on the very bottom of the map, it takes you to another page and you need to click on Lite Mode again to go back to the old system.

No 3D or Google Earth availability on Lite Mode though.

:)

I found a way to complain via "my account" as there was actually a 'send' button to click there.

Tried using the new maps, put in point of origin, takes that OK, put in a destinations and it send me somewhere completely different to where I wanted to go.

Back to Mapquest maybe? It was still slightly wrong, but closer than Google maps.

The bit that always hacks me off is when I ask for directions to somewhere and I get some advertisers idea of where I should go! There is a Cheverolet dealership near me that shoots details of their address on my every request....I shall NEVER buy a Cheverolet now:thumbdown:

Try going to https://maps.google.co.uk ... Worked for me. When trying to use Google Maps canada (maps.google.ca) it took me to the new one. .co.uk is still on the old one it seems :)

I'll be pleased when Google Streetview gets a bit faster so that you can drive around streets doing a virtual recce in the same way you would in a car. Maybe you can already do this on higher powered machines?

Still, it's a far cry from how it was back in the dark ages of the internet (ten years ago).

I'm pretty sure you can already do this once you have planned a route.

I think they may have paid attention to me.

I followed the suggestion made by Inse and selected the previous version.

There was a little survey as to why I was expressing that preference and a multiple choice option included what I had said in my complaint.

Of course it might be that they were doing this anyway, but I suspect they might have used something more techie sounding rather than the basic "old people" expression I used.

The new version is a lot more intensive on the computer you use. If it's a bit older or weaker the whole interface runs like treacle. On a newer PC it's not too bad.
