My husband....who doesn't understand why I spend so much time on BE.....has a question.
Is it possible to get a good curry in Canada....Nova Scotia in particular? When have been over there we have had lost of good Oriental food but he is concerned that he will never have a lamb madras or a chicken tikka marsala ever again.
Any curry lovers out there got a recommendation please?

If you want really unhelpful I had a good curry in Richardson Texas. Any place that has a lot of computers (eg Richardson, San Jose, Milton Keynes, Slough, Silicon Anywhere) will tend to have good Indian food due to all the H1B people.

I'm sure all there places are lovely.........but do they deliver to Nova Scotia.
I once sent scones and clotted cream from Cornwall to the Midlands and I had a friend who sent a lobster air mail from her holiday abroad.
Same principal I'm sure....just let me have the orderline details, I could try them before we even come to Canada!!!

The Taj Mahal in Halifax makes a great curry, as good as any I have ever eaten in the UK.

I think this is another one of those "Britisms". I bet there are lots of good Indian restaurants in Halifax. The food might not be identical to the food in your favourite restaurant in England, but that's not to say that it isn't good Indian food. I would think it would depend on whereabouts in India the respective chefs came from.
We have a new Punjabi restaurant here. It goes without saying that the owners are from the Punjab. My older son and I like the food, as does my husband. My younger son doesn't. It's all a matter of taste and the region the food comes from and whether you like that particular region's food or not.

We did manage to find a good fish and chip shop today, and we ate halibut and chips sitting by the river watching the world go by. THen we had a stroll and a paddle in the shallows. Really really lovely,- You can survive without an Indian restaurant

I didnt understand a word of this, apart from Indian food and MK, so now i am thinking fondly of the Jaipur in MK, try it next time you are there

If you're ever in Kamloops, there are 2 East Indian family owned restaurants that serve up very reasonable curry (and 2 that don't). The Taj (suprise) is probably the pick of the two. There's also an excellent Thai restaurant too.

I think I may have tried it last time I was there. I was working with H1B people (Indian computer people admitted to the country on a temporary permit to work on a specific project nominally of limited duration but actually dragged out for years) and we ate out a lot. Some of the food was excellent.
What I was getting at in the unintelligible post was that anywhere with a lot of high tech firms, often such places are grandiously called Silicon Something, will have lots of Indians imported on work permits or legally employed by questionable foreign subsidiaries of their actual employers. These people have to eat and so places like Richardson (a suburb of Dallas), MK and Redmond WA are likely spots for good curries. KnowhatImean?

The Jaipur is a new building in a mock temple/taj mahal style. Unmistakeable and very good food

Amazing to read such prejudices and opinionated views.. coming from an immigrant himself/herself, all the more ironical!

I suspect the general disatisfaction with the "indian" food in canada is a result of it being a lot more like indian food than what we are actually looking for.
