Don't care about all the that other 'Brit-food' rubbish.

Found a nice wee shop in Fergus that sells square sausage and tattie scones. - Life is good.

Just need to convince Mortons to sell rolls over here and I can die happy....and fat.

Sooo if I bought sausage from the store and took the casings off and formed them into squares.........would that be square sausage?

It seems to me I have a recipe for tattie scones in my brit cookbook.....Potato scones........

Wouldn't have the same taste...especially if you used those Maple flavoured breakfast links. Yeughhhh!

Nothing else I miss and there's so much that's new to try anyway.

So if Corn Syrup is not the same thing, what is it used for?
Corn Syrup is the essential ingredient in Pecan Pie!!

Marmite is everywhere here in Ottawa .... it's vegemite we can't get ahold of. There are seriously groups of ex-pats who keep an eye on who is visiting UK / Aus and there's a rotation as to whose turn it is to receive the blessing of vegemite. Otherwise that seems to be the only thing we can't find that we would miss. We're lucky to have a 'House of Scotland' shop that sells everything from kilts to twiglets, baked beans, tunnocks, slice (square sausage), haggis, etc.

Superstore is the same chain, although I've never seen the cubes here. I did see Flakes in Superstore last night though, 99c a pop, and in their Xmas section a 454g (2 layer) box of UK-made Milk Tray for 9.99 - that's got to be same/cheaper price than in the UK? Strange for an import. Either way, I now weigh 454g more

I saw some Roger's Golden Syrup in Superstore yesterday - is that the same stuff?
It was about 4 CAD-ish for a large plastic squeezy bottle and was next to the table syrups.

We were debating wether we were going to do 'Costco' or 'Superstore' This week.........I think Superstore just won! Flakes are over 50p now and the Milk Tray sounds about rightly priced too. OH OH weight watchers - save me a place!

Is that the same? I think it has far less taste. Real Golden Syrup is from sugar cane I think? Honey would probably be a better sub for it than Corn Syrup.

I did find a canadian made brand...

Think it's the same - well, it's similar enough for my fudge biscuits to taste OK!!

Will check at lunchtime and get back to you - I know it has crushed digestives (McVitie's, not Candian digestives - I've tried but the taste isn't as nice), sugar, butter/marg (I prefer butter), syrup and condensed milk. Topped with melted milk chocolate.
Best left for a day or two before eating. That's the hard bit!!

Gingerbread and Bran muffins for a start.

You can use black treacle as a substitute for molasses
