Golden Syrup

Is there an equivalent to Goldon Syrup (as in Tate & Lyles used for Treacle puds, flapjacks etc) in Canada. Would it be 'Corn Syrup'? Enquiring minds are looking for answers......

If its just a general sweetener then corn syrup will work, if its treacle sponge puds then Im afraid its best just to pay through the nose for those small tins of Lyons near the baking sections in the supermarkets. Its out there somewhere, but like all these missing britfoods, its in smaller pots with larger price tags
and more often than not, not where you expect to see it.having said that, I havent seen real OXO cubes recently

Its really to make Flapjacks. A food I miss as I have not really found an equivalent to this favourite food! I can buy Golden Syrup but as you say its expensive.
So if Corn Syrup is not the same thing, what is it used for?

It's the ingredient in home made beer that becomes the alcohol. One should be careful to avoid using flavoured corn syrup.

These 'food' threads always make me smile - I feel a lot of empathy to everyone, so much so that I want to put an extra jar / packet / tin of whatever is the current problem food, into my supermarket trolley - then post it off to you guys !!! (OK, sad, I know, but that'll be me soon )
I guess some people do get some supplies sent over by friends ? Is there a problem with posting foodstuffs ?!! And before anyone jumps down my throat about not being able to cope without marmite, I think I will manage - just.
Semi-seriously - we are over in Calgary in December - if anyone wants a pot of Bisto granules brought over for their turkey dinner, or a tin of tikka masala sauce, do PM me !! (takes cover, as realise this may be an extremely stupid suggestion on a forum, and there's obviously only a certain amount of 'pressies' one should squeeze into one's suitcase without arousing huge suspicion from customs and jeopardising our future in our chosen land !! )

OXO cubes have gone AWOL, used to see them, but its just sachets now. Couldnt tell you the difference in real terms. If cubes are important to you you can get the dutch equivalent, Maagi cubes. Cant think of anything else you cant find easily, if for a premium price. Pork pies maybe?

- instant grits
- free range eggs
- Callier chocolate
Some things, such as whole milk, are a bit of a bother to obtain but it can be done. Some things such as Walker's crisp and Cadbury's chocolate are available but expensive.
