I'm thinking that part of the answer for us is something stackable
like

or double-decker like

&

Or split (like a twin tub )

But this one's kind of nice. Wall-mounted, each section swings out.

Just about every example I see of something 'about right' for us is a UK or Japanese site.

Anyone seen similar things in Canada?

Cheap, we had those for a few years. Tricky to clean as the surface isn't smooth inside.
We have our blue bins in the mud room, along with the stinky garbage and stinky cat litter. Should really call it the stinky room

I feel bad about not recycling, so much to the dump that in theory could be recycled.

I can at least say I tried to get recycling service in the building.

I would hope to be able to have a bag inside but it might do for non mucky dry stuff...small wrappers/packaging?

The metal bins tend to always be a bit pricey, but suppose they cost more to make, ship and all that.

Also this kind of stacking bin, they run 10.99 each here, unsure if the price is the same nationwide.

I put cans in one and booze bottles in the other. The shape doesn't lend itself to bags. Paper recycling would be good.

These storage arrangements seem very complicated. We have a bin bag for plastic recycling, a bin bag for paper recycling and a bin bag for rubbish. Once a fortnight we drive to the dump and empty them into the appropriate bins. Total cost of the recycling management system was less than a quid.

And there's the major complication for the significant numbers (in NB) who don't drive

------------------------------------

October 17 it's supposed to begin and the city still hasn't sent out any official advice. I found this on a local radio station site.
...the current blue bag for recyclable materials; the Green bag for organics; and other garbage that doesn’t fit into the first two will go into a clear bag.
Funny thing is they always told us how easy it was, yet now they are agreeing that there really is stuff that doesn't really suit either of the current two bags

And another bag for cans or are they used for target practice?

Ha, for the purpose of recycling, cans are plastic. Unless they had beer in them in which case they go to a whole other place. Usually when walking the dog I collect beer cans and whisky bottles recently thrown from trucks, that feels like a really country thing.

If you don't drive then you either live somewhere with dustmen or you take your rubbish to the dump on the tram; the filing system needed is the same regardless.

Bloody simple system where I live.

Garbage bin emptied every two weeks. Blue bin emptied the other week. No need to sort the blue bin. Everything goes in. Brown bin (if you use it), every week, along with yard waste bags (no limit on how many). Bits of trees? No problem.

Anything big and of value left at the bottom of the driveway the night before is usually gone by morning, and the blue bin will be emptier than it was when you put it out because the scavengers will see to that.

I don't generally have many nice things to say about my city but the waste removal is ace, and nothing stops them. There can be snow ploughs in ditches but that doesn't stop the garbage trucks.

Well of course we have collection. The issue is we've moved from 2 bins, to 3 bins and soon to be 4. They needn't be as big individually as they were (so we'd have to waste the waste bins ) but we're still talking the need for more space - and I'm sure you agree all space is not suitable for all purposes - and some of it left for two weeks growing rather than one.

Of course another solution would be to build a conservatory.
