I was just thinking of asking if you are a bit of a control freak. In most cases fear of flying is just that - not being in control. I have a bit of a contrl craving myself and started to get afraid of flying. That was something I could not afford. A pilot buddy talked me through the aerodynamics and the flight after that, the turbulence we went through didn't scare me after I replayed the speech my buddy gave me, in my head.

And the other good thing is that I am much more relaxed about letting go of control.

How else would I get to the airport?

Those who fear flying because they are not in control - Would the flight be safer if they were?

Mrs Miggins is an unknown quantity at this point

A good friend of mine is a therapist who follows the practice of "Human Givens" therapy. He did his stuff one lunch time (when we were at work) and I can now see crustaceans and not have a melt down.......I still don't like them, but I can deal with them.

Very simple "rewind" techniques were used, I would recommend them. Google them and you should be able to find a directory for them. He's since gone to live in Morroco with a gorgeous young woman.............she's a lucky lady

Oh yeah, my OH is a helicopter pilot of nearly 20 years, he still doesn't like heights (ladders etc).....at all. Funny eh?

Anyway, good luck and I hope it all works out with the flying.

If you want to trade insults don’t bother, as better people than you have called me a lot worse.
All I was doing was showing that there are always different ways of viewing a problem and getting around it. If a person really dislikes something they should look for alternatives or ways of solving their dilemma. E.g. if you don’t like spiders you get someone else to remove them from your presents its as simple as that.
Travelling thousands of miles is the same, alternative modes of transport are available, they just take longer to get you to your chosen destination but in a lot more comfort and style

Probably in their heads. Come to think of it, those I know who are afraid of flying i.e. are also afraid passengers in cars. But as soon as they are behind the wheel and in control, the fear of being in a moving vehicle in traffic is gone. My dad is a classic example of that. My fear of flying actually coincided with my fear of being a passenger in a car as well. Now I'm happy doing either.

I also know pilots who started taking lessons to cure fear of flying and now are commercial pilots. Freight and/or people pilots.

Some examples of how to take a ship to NS would be appreciated. I have an elderly father who simply refuses to fly.

Hi Saw04
Cunard sail to New York quite often. Expensive on the QM2 but would make a great holiday.
There is a company at www.freightcruise.com go direct to Halifax they say on the web site they can do 1 way so they may be able to different sailings.
A good search with google should reveal more freight companies that take passengers.
Also www.cruisedirect.com.
