We went to the world premiere of Eric Idle's oratorio "Not the Messaih (He's a Very Naughty Boy)" at the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto in June. Why Toronto for the premiere of a Pythonesque choral work based on the Life of Brian? Well, it helps that Idle's cousin Peter Oundjian is the principal conductor of the TSO... the man himself was the narrator and occasional soloist (described in the programme as "baritone - ish"). Don't know where or whether it's ever going to be performed again, but if it is and it's near you, go see it: just don't blame me if your sides hurt afterwards.

How can you choose? Its like choosing the best player in liverpools all conquering 1983/4 line up.

I vote for Chapman not as a favourite, but cos he had no votes, and without him python would never have been what it was and we would not have heard of any of them.

Had Chapman not been such a pain in the arse (so to speak) Cleese would probably have carried on working with him alone, rather than asking Michael Palin to join them, who in turn dragged along Terry Jones and Eric Idle, who suggested Terry Gilliam come along too.

So if Graham Chapman had been a nicer person, monty python would never have happened, and a "norwegian blue" would be some sort of scandanavian porno movie I expect.

I'd have to go with Terry Gilliam.

Monty Python And The Holy Grail,
Time Bandits,
The Meaning Of Life,
Brazil,
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen,
The Fisher King,
Twelve Monkeys,
Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas.

Eight of my top twenty favourite movies, and Terry Gilliam directed them all.

Have you ever read Graham Chapman's autobiography?
Quite frankly one of the funniest books I have ever read.
