Re: FAMOUS CANADIANS

Fair enough. Now I don't want to offend any canadians in saying this, but I always think I'd remember a Canadian by their 'distinguishable' accent, and so if someone says such-and-such is Canadian I try and imagine them saying 'about' or 'out' or 'shout'!

Bless 'em ;)

I thought it was Banting and Best who discovered insulin, but after I googled them it turns out it was Banting and MacLeod.

Of course I have no idea which Canadians are famous in the UK.

John McCrae -- the dude who wrote, "In Flanders Fields."

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

I admit to cheating, insofar as I Googled the words of the poem.

Indeed, as in any country it seems, a bunch of warblers, freaks and spoon-benders.

Why are they famous? 'Cos we're thick, that's why.

I'm glad someone mentioned the Sutherlands (Kiefer and Donald) But what some of you may not know is Kiefers grandad was Tommy Douglas who was of course the Premier of Saskatchewan who introduced Medicare.

And no I didn't google this, lets just say I have a rather unhealthy obsession for the 24 actor:o

Ah yes... 'JD Roberts'. He did that 'new music' music show or Much Music or something too. He always struck me as an asskisser.

Does anyone outside Canada know who she is? When we moved here in 1999 my OH's family couldn't believe I'd never heard of her.
