Then you'll have folks on BE with the 'get together' for reasons unknown - could it be a chance to be nosy, inquisitive, suss someone out, befriend or unfriend others?

Why the hype, I just don't get it' why do folks do these things - am I missing something?

Why do folks put their real face avatar on BE, has BE become a toned down version of 'facebook', or is it simply 'chat'?

Because it's nice to put faces to the words, it's fun being sociable. I spend time on fora as I like to chat and as I can't pick up the phone to natter and gossip I talk online.

Ive met some very pleasant people through the Internet, a few vile ones, but the majority are decent interesting people.

I believe that BE was started by Sue when she and her family moved to the US as a way to interact with other ommigrants. Over the years virtual friendships developed for a lot of us. With that came meetups and in person friends. There have even been a couple of marriages of couples who "met" on BE.

As for the real face avatars, that's a tradition for the last week of December that's neen going on for years. And it is kind of nice to see what the people you're chatting with actually look like, isn't it?

Why bother doing anything? There's no point really so you may as well stop the boredom by commiting sudoku with a cheap samurai sword.

I'll fall on my recently sharpened crossword pencil before that happens.

Re: Facebook - unfriending nutters

I am trying to make friends outside Facebook while applying the same principles.

Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell passers-by what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later, and with whom.

I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does every day.

I also listen to their conversations, give them the "thumbs up" and tell them I like their conversations.

And it works just like Facebook. I already have four people following me: two police officers, a private investigator and a psychiatrist.

I only go to strategise and build alliances on the forum.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer and all that.

Oh and because there is booze and sweet potato fries.
