Expensive weddings

I got married twice, to the same person. Once in a registry office in the London suburbs, Uxbridge I think, or Pinner, somewhere like that, wherever could do it the same day, then again a week or so later in some sort of ecclesiastical structure in Switzerland. There was a party after the first wedding, we were late as we had to rush from the ceremony to have emigration medicals. There was some sort of car accident en route from medical to party but the details escape me now.

We spent about £4 - 5K - was it worth it- yes absolutely to us. We had a lovely party with lots of lovely people, at a breathtaking venue (merchant adventurers hall york which was remarkably cheap, think 14th century, roaring fires in the winter, barn dance in the undercroft).
I suggest if these people spend that much- then it is worth it to them. If spending a lot of money is how they want to live then its worth it.
We all choose to spend our money differently. One mans 52 inch telly is another man's ski holiday is another man's meal out a week is another mans flash car.
Me and hubby tend to spend our money on experiences (eg skiing, outings) rather than material things.

It does bug me though when people say "I can't afford to get married".

I upped my approval rating yesterday by phoning Sunwing and reserving good seats. It cost a bundle but, if you've been up all night, a 35" seat pitch is always going to be good.

I have mixed feelings about Quebec festivities. On the one hand, it's quite nice to be instantly treated as "family" by people you've never met. On the other hand, it isn't.

I'm not really pushing the boat out. I don't know how much experience you have of flying but I can assure you that there is a world of difference between 29" and 35", particularly if you have been awake all night before getting to the airport. Compared to the cost of the vacation, $160 is nuffink.

Souvette isn't French. She's Quebecoise. Big difference.

I'm not a big bloke and normally I could hack 29" for a few hours. Not this time. We'll have been awake for a good 24 hours when we get on that plane. A few hours of decent snoozing is worth the money.

It's Sunwing. I'd have preferred to go AC or Transat but our requirements on location, dates and departure airport are cast in stone and so we had no choice.
