There have been lots of referendum promises over the years.

Referendum Promises

He dodged the cast-iron one.

No doubt in the London bubble this one seemed like a walk in the park but the worth of the EU seems less obvious elsewhere.

And the reason Cameron called it was to stuff UKIP in addition to uniting the Tory party. And that has actually worked, which was the silver living because now they no purpose having won.

I can't say it's any better here in Canada, the uninformed uneducated voter voting in a Tax happy lying Liberal Government

Well, now the UK gets to have the "worst" tories. Cameron is going to seem quite moderate considering.

Cameron is really to blame for all this. Even though he was pressured to have the referendum, he should have had an agenda for BOTH scenarios. That's his job at the end of the day. You don't quit because it didn't go the way you wanted. Serve the country mate, you had one job!

Does anyone think that the establishment can somehow manipulate the public into holding a second referendum on Brexit (and thus we get to see an opposite outcome)?

You mean keep trying until the Gov get the result they want. Remember approx 1 million more people voted to leave. Thats a lot of minds to change.

The government does NOT need to execute the results of this referendum afaik
It is not a legally binding one

The only way that minds would be changed would be to get better terms from the EU, that kind of smacks of blackmail- accept these terms and we might reconsider...ain't gonna happen

Well, how about those lazy butts who were on the Remain side but didn't come out to vote, or those who voted for Exit but didn't understand what it actually means and are having their eyes opening up to the new reality. I am sure they won't mind having a second chance.
