I forgot about the Critics. I think that may have been the first time I saw the word 'Juxtaposition' used. For a while my friends and I would try to get it into a sentence whenever possible. It made us sound like incredible knobs.

Yes the old Correlation vs Causation chestnut. I haven't read the studies well enough to know if established any actual causation. But as you say, the boffins doing the study should have factored all of that in the report.

There's little to no evidence of causation in any social science research. What one must guard against is enticing but spurious correlations.

Probably. But it's useful to prove what are 'obvious facts', and you always get the occasional counter-intuitive result.

Common sense suggests that common sense is a load of bollox and is mostly a concept used to justify opinions that are not supported by research.
