Default Easter weekend

Hi there,

This is my first Easter weekend working, and I'm confused!

We get Friday off, then some people seem to be taking Monday off. Is Monday a holiday day, like an English bank holiday, as personnel aren''t here to ask!

Thx

For the most part Monday is not a holiday in Canada.

Federal government employees get Monday off, some Provincial and civic employees might.

Thanks for the reminder. We have to go to Montreal this weekend and we've been under pressure to stay the whole long weekend. I now, of course, realise that we must come back on Sunday as I have to work on Monday.

<I don't because I get UK bank holidays but the tribe doesn't know that>

Easter Monday is not a statutory holiday in Alberta, although some employers will be shutting down the office for the day. Other half works for province and they take a day off at any opportunity. Me on the other hand working for a municipality has to go to work

I bet he will be on that bl**dy Playstation all day

Don't worry - I only got the other half to check because of this thread - he'd just assumed it was a holiday...

So what are these statutory 'sick days' people here seem to use when they want an extra day off?

Some friends of ours use them even if they are not sick, as if they don't use them up up by the end of the year they'll lose them??

Gawd - that sounds so ungrammatical... but my brain's hurting .....

In my case I get 1.25(ish) days a month paid sick, plus 6 days a (school) year for immediate family illness ........ I can accrue 120 sick days for myself then everything else I earn goes into a 'bank' ....... lots of my colleagues make sure they have used up all of their entitlement by the time we finish in June
