Chaton (kitten) sounds cute in French but's a bit iffy in English. She wasn't always going to be a kitten, so chatte (female cat) was an option but, again, a bit dodgy in English. We settled on Minette (pussy). The cat doesn't care.

The owners definitely knew (how could they not!)
the cat was about 18 when it started not wanting to eat and came to my clinic a few times.
Minge was owned by a respectable looking middle aged couple who probably thought the name was funny when they were in their early 20s. hehe
