This footage was from 3 years ago in Toronto, imagine proving that without video proof or a witness.

Finally got mine installed. Just too late for the ten car pileup yesterday.

Best reviews of all budget dash cams here, and other cams. A guy called Matt who tests them in Manchester UK

Agree with the police on this one.

Odd that a dedicated car camera like that at that price uses a battery? The higher end car cams that I have seen use a capacitor no battery. This is due to the start stop charge charge charge load on a battery.

I got this one, which does use a capacitor:

Amazon Amazon

Hardest part of installing it was getting the wire down inside the windscreen pillar without interfering with the airbag.

The downside, as I understand it, is that battery models can use a g-sensor to detect bumps while parked and record video if it happens, whereas the capacitor models won't do that unless you plug them into a permanent power source. The capacitor only lasts long enough to write the video to flash when the power goes away.

Ha ha yeh I know it's a catch 22 when it comes to car cams. Most cams will look out of the front of the vehicle, if the car gets robbed or rammed the cam will most likely not pick up any video unless the robber or accident comes from the front.

Also, that one has a GPS built in. There's an optional GPS module for mine, but apparently it takes a while to start working because it has to get a fix from scratch every time you start the car... that's one reason I didn't bother to buy it.

The thing about GPS is you usually know we're u are when you have an accident. It's good for tracing a trip, I think ? Not sure I am sold on GPS, mine is just a 1080 p no Frills cam with a small card, 1GB, on loop. My driving style while trying to follow some one is not one to be showing the world. Less history on my cam the better for me :@)

I'm still using the same one from the tip received from the OP off this thread(I think). Works great, but don't hot swap the memory card. I buggered up a 32Gb card by doing so. It's a good unit. Does what it says on the tin, so much to the point, where I'm considering on putting one on all four corners.

Yes, (according to TCMB), I am that guy.

After firing the SD card across the car a couple of times while trying to eject it, I think, in future, I'm going to take the laptop to the garage and copy videos off with the USB cable .
