It was ridiculous having them this year…they should be cancelled.

Surely fans watching outdoor Olympic events is no different to 60,000 fans watching England play at Wembley last night?

Vaccination rates in Japan are significantly lower than in the UK. That's the rationale for no spectators at the games. Vax hesitancy is apparently a big thing in Japan. On the UK and footy crowds / general relaxing of restrictions, it does rather feel like an experiment where n=population fo the UK to see whether vax rates make covid manageable.

As long as they can get vaccine supplies, they're jabbing over a million people a day, but if it's currently only 5% and the numbers in here are right, the rural areas must really be falling behind.

I did a quick search and it says 27% of the population, that’s 34m people, almost the entire population of Canada. What a shame they won’t be offering tickets to vaccinated folk.

Must admit the 5% was the reported figure a few weeks ago.

Most of Ontario is moving to Stage 3 a few days earlier than planned…next Friday 16 July. The exception is Waterloo because of the high Covid cases.

Edit: Stage 3 was supposed to be the last, but Stage 4 has now been added.

UK Covid today 35000 cases / 29 deaths. Summer surge is on it's way. Scientists are urging the government to U-turn on so-called freedom day (19/7) but it seems unlikely that they will.

Re: Coronavirus

I thought there always was a Stage 4, as Stage 3 wasn't a full lifting of all restrcitions.

It's interesting to see Moore change his mind on moving Stage 3 up, as I believe he was adamant it would not happen. Maybe it's because we have reached the 70-80 / 25 threshold for first / second doses, I think it's currently 70/50 (not sure if that is 18+ or 12+)

Given how there are quite a few doom and gloom types on the health and political side of things, I too expect there might be a stage 5, which is either every restriction removed, or still some restrictions in place until some metrics are reached, you know, proof of aliens, that kind of thing. For some reason the powers in Ontario seem hell-bent on keeping us as locked down as they can for as long as they can for some reason.

What I'm also waiting for is news from the Education side of things as to what's happening for in person learning in september.
