The man in Victoria that was fined over the weekend, well he spoke to the media.

According to neighbors he throws parties fairly often, of course the man say's he did nothing wrong.

Talking of parties, an acquaintance of mine sent me a message.. telling me that as she has been in Canada for 50 years she is throwing a party (she lives 5 minutes away) - but that she wasn't inviting me due to 'my beliefs' -- she's talking about a post (on FB) that I 'liked' of the local regulation bylaws on social distancing and Canada's regulations on 'circle of 10' - which she feels are ridiculous and doesn't comply with - yet she is in her 70's with health issues and her husband has already been hospitalised twice this year for underlying health issues. She just doesn't get that in inviting 20+ of her 'closest friends' (all in their 70's) she is putting them at risk as well as herself and her husband.

In her message she sent a link to https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...ails-1.5647198 and said "read this - it's proof that we are allowed to have a party with up to 50 people indoors - or up to 100 outdoors"'

AGH. another thick as sh** Covidiot who puts everyone at risk - both she and her husband go to many local stores / restaurants etc., without masking up (or dropping the mask a soon as they get in there, if they won't let them in without one)... she brags about it and procedes to post photos of it on FB, together with pictures of her meeting up with friends with no social distancing. There's no excuse for this type of behaviour - she's an educated woman, as is her husband.. they are choosing to ignore the regulations because they aren't convenient to them... they feel they can do what they like. It was the same when they were stuck in Spain - they were asked by the Police to stop exercising in a specific area - stopped several times for being outside the property when they shouldn't have been - and laughed it off and bragged how they 'gave them the slip and still went out and about when they wanted to'.

And of course you messaged back to point out the part that said "However, according to the plan, physical distancing remains a requirement for all people who are not from the same household or established social circle" and asked if she'd be following that :lol:

You're a much nicer person than I am. I'd have written what you did (I have no idea of the current rules in Canada but I hope I would if I lived there!), and then added

I appreciate you not inviting me to your party, as my refusal may have offended you.
I sincerely hope that all your guests enjoy themselves and don't mind if some nice police officers attend the party and fine them all. I also hope that the fond memories your guests will undoubtedly have of your party are not too soured by contracting covid-19 and perhaps becoming very ill, being hospitalized, being ventilated, and dying.

I sent her the link to the official website with regards to the new regulations that came out on 13th August which requires social distancing of 6ft for all in any social situation with fines for non compliance.. 'apart from your circle of 10' (which she also doesn't understand, so I sent her the official website link for that too :p ) and said "I prefer to rely on the official regulations rather than fake news from news websites - hopefully you will be following the bylaws, keeping a social distance and don't get fined :) "

I wish BC could follow that trend, but do suppose with a bigger population and likely more travel to/from BC from elsewhere, its not possible to get there anytime soon.

Yeah drug overdoses are way up. I've seen some mention because of COVID people are more likely to be doing drugs alone, and being alone while using increases your chance of death since nobody around to help.

Yep, it's a victim of the "Covid priority" ... covid has taken priority affecting treatments for mental health and other crucial things. But it seems according to govt as long as covid cases are down people who die of other causes as a consequence of the continued lockdown and restrictions do not matter.

I believe JS was referring to Drug Addict deaths, not necessarily suicides. The choice to indulge in illicit drugs can't be laid at the governments door, nor covids. You may choose to smoke weed to relax, others may choose to inject heroin or smoke crack - if they do too much or get a bad batch, death can result... covid or no covid.

I was talking about illicit overdose deaths, some could very well be suicides but most are accidental in nature.

Mental health access is more difficult at the moment however, so there is probably a link as its possible people with addiction issues also don't have the same level of access to their usual supports. Variety of mental health service programs around BC are currently not happening, and they have been slow to move online, but then its possible many don't have reliable access to the internet as well, so going online doesn't necessarily help the lowest income groups or homeless.
