When we arrived 4 years ago we had to go to Customs and Excise in Peterborough with our good to follow lists and packing lists. The removals company met us there and an official went through the lists before releasing the container contents to us.
Does this still happen? I was talking to some people who are getting their furniture etc today but they don't seem to have gone to customs. So I'm puzzled.

We had to go to the customs building by Union station in Toronto. We had to get our goods to follow form that was stamped at the airport when we landed looked at and fill in another very brief form. The very nice lady then phoned our removals company to release the container.
This obviously happened a fair bit as the two of them appeared to be on first name terms.

We had to go to Trenton Air Force Base (after doing the airport thing first when we landed) to do the customs thing.....
We took our 2 year grand daughter with us and they spent more time playng with her and telling us about their young kids, they stamped it and we were home 30 mins later.
