Customs run a trial called fast track a few years ago, it meant that the recieving agent could clear Customs for you by faxing your manifest to them. It worked really well, so they stopped it.

Perhaps it was putting people out of work .....who know's

About five years ago we had to turn up at customs in Fredericton while they looked over our packing list. As got to 'garden pots' on the list, we jumped in with a 'they were thoroughly washed and bleached', and it was a done deal. Having the movers say they packed on the paperwork (they didn't actually) really helped too.
