Nescafe Tasters Choice Instant. Seriously cannot be bothered with doing all that grinding stuff. Might be persuaded though, but I'm a stubborn old bugger

There are machines that will grind and tamp your beans to the correct pressure in less than 30 seconds. You just need to put the portafilter onto you coffee machine and press a button. Thirty seconds later you've a cup of coffee. Quicker than getting out a jar and waiting for a kettle to boil.

At home, usually a 3 or 4 whole bean into a bean-to-cup machine. No particular 'brand' but usually a Colombian. Depends what LD have on offer. There does seem to be an increasing number of Vancouver roaster-supplied beans available in LD as well at the moment.

My current bag is very oily and my machine doesn't like them much! Cleaning required too often. Won't be getting those again.

The thing that disappoints a lot of people with 'take out' Canadian coffee is that is taste like gnat's piss. That's known as 'Canadian Blend'.

At work we usually end up with a Nabob (usually the smaller packs so we get some variety).

For tea, we get PG Tips from the UK via an Amazon.co.uk marketplace seller. 240 bags for $8.99 delivered, which is pretty cheap to be honest. Takes about 3 weeks to arrive, but if you order a box regularly, you will never run out!

PC ground west coast dark roast when it's around $8 for the big tin so I usually have the next new one ready when needed.

Occasionally I may not have been able to get there while it's $8 and because I get it for that price so often, I don't feel like paying $13 when it's not on sale, so I'll buy the No Name version. It just needs a little more to get pretty much the same taste.

The climatic and geographic area was perfect for coffee plantations, so he invested in the local farmers and created the business.

I sold 25,000 cups of it in the past 8 months.
That looks great. I'm in the early stages of buying a cafe in small town Western Australia and may see whether I can source something similar here. Actually, I like the look of your cafe's menu, too.

If you want to drop me a line and discuss any pitfalls associated with that sort of business, I'll be happy to help. Good luck.

Sort of. The name of the place is going to be Bite Me which is a very "me" kind of name. The place I'm looking at is currently a tea house where they do fancy high teas and crap. My place will be much more feet up and relax with a coffee and muffin (that I've baked) place. Edited to add that the cake in my avatar is one I baked for a friend's 50th. She's a (now retired) cop and the cake is pigs in mud.

Thank you; I think I will take you up on that. Some of the major pitfalls I see are that I know I'll be working every weekend, especially during tourist season, and that I live 3 hours from where the cafe is so will be depending a lot on my manager.

Your sales volumes and margins will have to be high to afford/rely on a manager. Owner-operators make more sense financially with a single outlet.

The hours are definitely long. My wife and I work mid Nov to mid April without a break, then close until mid June during the shoulder season, then work through until the end of September.
