Check the network coverage. We live in Canmore AB and although Wind appears to be the cheapest network, they do not cover up here.

areas in red are covered under wind. I think the yellow areas are part of a partnership agreement of some kind and may cost extra. |

Yep. Don't get wind when you come out, becki. Go with Koodo if you want a cheaper prepaid/contract option. By far the least ripoff carrier in Canada.

If your not travelling around the country and spend most of your time in a Wind zone they are not a bad deal. I had them for a year just because it was 20 bucks a month for unlimited local calling and text which is all I needed, and I spent 95% of my time within the calling area, so there was no need to pay more elsewhere for that 5% I was away from the zone. I use Virgin which is part of Bell, I found their plans and pricing to be better then Koodoo. Just gotta shop around to see what suits you best. |

Not downtown specifically but only in the large metro area's and surrounding area's. I am most familiar with BC, and they have coverage in all of Metro Vancouver out to Abbotsford, and select service in Whistler. (They might be in other regions, but these are the regions I know of.)

Before or after the new CRTC rulings? (Out of curiosity, not trying to jab :)) Other pro about Koodo though is if you buy a mobile through them they will unlock it for $35 so you can use a UK SIM card whilst back in the UK. (or a x country sim whenever you travel to x country) |

(or a x country sim whenever you travel to x country) No clue when the new rules went into affect, so you'll have to figure that one out. The savings isn't significant, but there was 1 big difference, koodo wanted a deposit, and Virgin did not, so to Virgin it was. Looking at their websites, the cost per month is basically the same, so there really appears to be no real difference between the 2 companies price wise. |

That's good. So it would be best for me to buy my snazzy new phone from Koodo and get it unlocked before I leave (if I leave :p)
So many choices with the providers and phone plans  The big 3 and their affiliates all offer good coverage, and at the end of the day, there isn't much difference between any of them customer service wise. Telus (which owns Koodo) Bell (which owns Virgin mobile) Rogers (which owns Fido) |

Just search their sites, find the one with the best prices and phones to suit your needs and pick that one.

Telus (which owns Koodo) Bell (which owns Virgin mobile) Rogers (which owns Fido) Is it worth getting a plan which includes not having to pay to receive calls as this is an alien concept in regards to UK mobile/cell plans? |
