If its not one thing, it's another. Britain as country is morally imploding these days. The extent and blatancy of chav behavior in Britain is simply appalling.

So, in an effort to help fellow Brits who may be dithering about leaving the UK, post your chav stories here and it might help those to make up their minds. Depending on the response, we might make this a wiki article.

Chav appears to be a British phenomenon ( or problem depending on how you view it) but under age parenthood isn't. There must be similar reportings in Canada too?
However, I'm pretty sure that if we reduced benefits given to teen mums, then maybe the incidences would reduce. The Oz Gov give a $6,000 'Baby Bonus' to new mums regardless of age.

Chav Britain, Please come on. Whilst this country has problems and we have many, why focus on the bad. Its a story in the Sun FFS!!!

Why not go the whole hog and quote the Daily Mail, Imigrants are taking over, its not safe to walk the streets, drugs and gun crime rife in kindergarten.
I know its the British way of life to look onthe bleak side, do we really believe its any worse than has been in the past?
Im leaving the UK to give my family a better standard of living, for every horror story from the Sun or any other tabloid I can give you a pleasant story that never gets reported on.
Bad news sell more papers.

Apparently when her 12 year old daughter gave birth, her mum was 'pleased' because of the money they would receive. Supposed to be a form of assistance not an incentive me thinks.

According to the canadian council on social development the cost of raising a child to age one is $10k, and the total to age 16 is about $166k...

No wonder I'm brassic. $6k would be a drop in the bucket at best.

Have you checked the dates on each page. The Sun is dated January 19th.2010 whereas the BBC article is dated January 19th.2009.

Someone is playing silly beggars. I remember this story from last year and the correction/refuting a few days later.

Chav's are a UK phenomenon. Teenagers are getting pregnant in droves so they can sponge off the state by being given a free house and then by use their benefits to buy fags for their kids.

It's a disgrace - people should be aiming to get out before the place is overrun.

I still believe it must be something to do with society as much with parenting. My eldest, who has had plenty of oppurtunities in life ( all of which she has rejected), compared to many, is right up there on the chav-o-meter. Neither myself or the O/H have any idea where it has come from. We both have good jobs and are educated with degrees and feel we did our best bringing her up. But I tell you what, if her neanderthal unemployed boyfriend calls me 'Mate' one more time...:frown:

Couldn't agree more with this. I remember reading once about all the articles that the Daily Mail print that turn out to be complete lies, it was pretty incredible and these were the sort of articles that ruin lives. I never trust any red tops or the Daily Mail for news. It's complete sensationalism. The front page headlines are normally selected from - a) Maddy b) Princess Di or c) Immigrants, followed by a photo of a middle classed missing white blonde girl to make you feel warm and fuzzy and something to relate to, next to a picture of crazy looking, evil bearded Muslim to make sure you couldn't feel any more worlds apart.

You can say anything with statistics. I prefer to go on the real experiences of ordinary people. The UK is clearly full of benefit scroungers and chavs as indicated by stories such as the one Oink posted.

I wasn't really commenting on the reality of UK society and what's wrong or right with it. Just commenting on how crap these papers are and how bad a source of information they are. Don't worry, I'm not trying to make out like the UK is some utopian society where there isn't a culture of abusing benefits.

There are those of us who emigrated for a reason. This is a problem that has been getting worse since the early 1980s. And for some people 30 years of declining moral standards and booze culture is enough.

My chav story, and I must warn you that I live a sheltered life is the shock I had the other day seeing a 14 ish year old girl wearing a top which said on the front: "If you think I'm a b**** you should see my Mum!"

It may be free for those welfare spongers who have never paid taxes, but for the majority of hard working Brits who pay taxes, it certainly is not free.

I was a teenager in the 80s and it was getting bad then and by the 90s you couldn't go out in town without some drunken yob trying to take swing at you while his drunk and pregnant teenage girlfriend was shouting obscenities. It's only got worse. Now when I go back, there's McDonalds and Burger Kings and cheap hooch everywhere.

Like this in my home town too 80's/90's but am not sure if it is better or worse since given how bad it was then & they have had major pushes on clean ups.
Am way past the Fri / Sat night round town culture now so maybe I just don't see it.

At the risk of opening up the Canadian / US equivalent, the 'people of walmart site'? doesn't seem to show it as a UK issue only;)
