Has every one here done their census. ??

Will the Census police come and get ya.

We got selected for extra census duties too - took forever to do. Now about to do the one for the Lake house - this is one reason to not be greedy and have two houses:eek::rofl:

Yep. I actually didn't think it was particularly intrusive. Seem to recall doing one in the UK years ago which asked for way more info. I don't have a problem doing them as (supposedly) the info is used for schools, funding etc.

Short form should be 8 questions (you must have skipped a couple).

If you are one of the "lucky" one in three you can answer the long form now known as the National Household Survey strictly voluntary mind. :)

Re: CENSUS 2011

When I got the letter I put it by the side of the computer. After staring at it for 3 days with the fear and dread of a person about to go to the gallows I opened it. I had the feelings of someone who had been told it was all a mistake and was now free. It took less than 3.67 minutes to fill it in. I'm fond of those sort of experiences, they are so few.

Bless those census people and may they be among those to go to heaven on Saturday.

Re: CENSUS 2011

Yeah, we got the household one too. As like Bells I was ready for a marathon session after doing 8 little questions and thinking Oh was that it? I voluntarily carried on as we were specially picked, WELL, it took forever, a alot longer than an extra 20 mins as I had to keep getting up and looking through files for info and adding up bills and stuff. It's put me off volunteering again:frown::rofl:

The second one I did too about 30 seconds, thought it might take longer but it was ok.

Wasn't there a thread about how terrible it was that those damn Tories had gone against the received wisdom regarding the long form and now people are complaining about the short one!

There's no pleasing some people:)

That's right!

What's that saying? You can please some people some of...no that's not it. You can please all of the people all of...nope.
You can please some of all the people all...nah.
You can please all the people with some of their time...Hmm.

Whatever.

I don't have any problem with a detailed census. My A-level geography dissertation was based on census data.

The short census strikes me as rather pointless. Apart from the language bit, I think the other questions were answered on my tax return.

Re: CENSUS 2011

I took a few semesters of 'social statistics' that included in depth study of the census, census design, statistic software, analysis of social data... thank god the lecturer was good looking or I'd have never shown up.

Although there was an interesting bit about census data that was obviously (or not so obviously) taking the piss and the wee collection of census funnies Stats Can has.

Im not sure I can be arsed chasing it up to be honest, although I suppose I should given my views on the government changes to the long form.

I received a sort of pamphlet just last week with a code and instructions about doing it on the internet. Or where to call/write if I wanted a paper copy. I first thought it was junk mail and nearly tossed it... maybe you did!

No more serious here than in the UK. Failure to comply can get you a thousand pound fine and a criminal record.

Re: CENSUS 2011

you def dont need to be in the 1 in 3 to do the household census.
you can still do it regardless if you where choosen or not.

and if you havent completed your short census, then yes you will receive a visit, I start working on that shortly so you could get a nice visit from me.

if you dont have one then call 1-877-777-2011 and they will arrange one to be sent out.

That sounds similar to the one we received. Logged onto the website, put in code, all done in about 3 mins.

We received ours on May 6th. I believe the official census day was May 10th or 11th.

I believe you will get a phone call or a visit if you don't complete the form.

Same here - envelopy thing in the post with the log in code. I logged into the website. Put the details in (name, age, dob, languages spoken from memory) and the job was done.

Easy peasy.

Having said that, you do wonder what the technophobes who don't have internet access would do as it was assuming that you would do it online. I have no problem with this, but my mother (if she were in Canada and was still alive) would have had a real problem as she was terrified of computers...

I thought that the letter came with a telephone number to call. I assumed that was to be able to complete the questionnaire over the phone. It would appear it was to order a hard copy of the form.

all depends.... some area's mainly cities where by mail to do online etc..

We got the short one in the mail. Very quick to complete. I was very perplexed by the first main question being 'does anyone in your household produce agricultural products such as eggs, furs, sod etc'. Seems a very odd choice for a first question
