Yes, but to dismantle apartheid Mandela had to first defeat the IFP, and once in power his call for peace and forgiveness was the first order of business. White Africans tell me the ANC has ballsed things up there and things should have been left as they were. Every black African I've met, (only a few, admittedly), has a different opinion.
Lots of nations become independant through terrorism, the USA, Israel, Cuba, Nicaragua, etc. One man's terrorist, etc. Mandela's struggle was hampered by co-operation between the South African police and western law enforcement as well - ANC supporters who moved to Canada were harrassed and in some cases lost jobs because of CSIS or RCMP interference. I have no doubt Gandhi was called a terrorist at many polite dinners as well.

He was sort of an American Bob Hoskins, who is in turn sort of a British Gene Hackman. If you don't know who they are it's ok, that was praise. Any movie with those actors in it is usually worth watching.

Rather hard to know what one is missing when you've not watched either!
