If I was forced to chose a Canadian, it would be Leonard Cohen.

Dylan and Cohen are amongst my favourites as my ability to sing rivals theirs.

Yes, to Leonard Cohen, but I believe the Tragically Hip's popular song was called "New Orleans is Sinking". How does that sell to Canadians?

Gord did do some stuff for the inuit aboriginals though- unlike most of these cradles.

Yes....once you take the “Canadianess“ out of it.....the tragically hip are really not that good, most of us on here seem to have the same opinion, we are all Brits that grew up to a different soundtrack...so we are not sold on the memories and Canadian fervour of it all, we hear it for what it is. Average at best.

I think my favourite classic Canadian artist is Gordon Lightfoot.....I think he is also very much a Canadian musical icon. and in my opinion his music way better, its easy listening, but meaningful.

I'd go with Stompin' Tom Connors.....

Bud the Spud was his biggest hit, I think. There were some darker bits about Tom, but his body of work stands as important, especially from the Maritimes through Ontario, maybe skipping over Quebec. I like the Ketchup Song.

My neighbor in Toronto had been a bluesman for a long time. When I lived next door he was host of the blues hour on Q107 and had a bar band. He'd toured with Stompin' Tom and complained about having to drink a 2-4 each night. Not the volume but the fact that Tom drank Molson so the backing band had to drink Molson. I'm indebted to him for the knowledge that the roughest bar in Canada in which to play blues is the Wawa Motor Inn, it's on my bucket list.

The media is so imaginative with names. Red Robbo, Red Ken, Red Ed, Red Len, Red Arthur...
