Given the atrocities that people inflict on other people all over the world everyday that get hardly a mention, why should we be surprised by any of this stuff? Or even outraged.

Its just the fact that its now caught on camera that makes us more aware I guess, but people can be absolute bastards, and deep down I think we all know and recognise that.

There, hows that for a pessimistic view of humanity. I guess I shouldnt have watched "Polytechnique" last night.

I can sort of imagine people chucking unwanted puppies into a river. Filming it and then circulating the footage is something I have trouble comprehending.

I hear you, but then there are so many worse things going on in the world it always seems wryly amusing to me how up in arms people get about people doing horrible things to innocent animals (and the cat was OK after all), compared to the blasé attitude they seem to show for human on human atrocities all around the world, Death squads, child armies, mass rapes, brutal oppression etc etc.

You can show a cat being dumped in a bin on the primetime TV news. Shots of brutally murdered people or the innocent victims of the "war against terror" are beyond the pale of course, so its like our heads are in the sand and the cat is the worst thing we have to think about...

Doesnt make what happened right of course, but I think some perspective is required. I was wondering why no one had commented on the cat woman sooner though, it seemed prime BE fodder.

I agree with you mostly. There are, of course, many much more horrible things happening daily. The examples you give involve people with an agenda. I struggle to find an agenda with the puppies.
